As some of you probably know, my sled as been stolen last month. Now I'm scared for my snow blower and lawn mower and everything else in the shed. I have installed a cam that take pic when the sensor detect something moving. Its flash free and can take pics at night. The problem is that it takes only 3 pics per minutes. Cross your finger to get a good pic, and it can be broke easily or the thief can steal the cam and all the pics gone... So I was thinking about something else like a real cam and connect it to the computer. Can you guy's / girl give me some tip, information, ideas about my options and what to buy, whats the best... thanks!

I always thought they should have a viedeo camera hooked up to a motion detector..

That only recorded when someone was there, turn off after like 10 minutes, unless reactivated.

There stuff out there, not sure where to look. I can ask some guys at work.

www.x10.com

I purchased some cameras from there a few years ago and they've been working really well for my needs. I'm sure they've upgraded the quality and options since I bought mine.

Just a quick look at their main page seems like they are trying to use the old "Sex Sells" campaign. Lots of hotties on the main page.

Not so long ago, a deranged, ranting person's audience was limited to how many people happened to be on the same street. The Internet, however, has certainly allowed "crazy" to go global...

If you are a costco member, you can get a great package deal on cameras and a networkable DVR. (that means you can view it from any computer anywhere with a broadband connection). Lorex makes the best stuff on a budget. Start there. Also check out CSI/Speco for a more diverse selection, but may not be able to buy direct from them. We use Pelco cameras, made in the USA, but mad expensive.

IR and night vision are usually the same, though some IR cameras light up with red LED's when active, which can be a dead giveaway to a trespasser, if you're trying to go for stealth. Sometimes the mere obvious presence of a camera is enough to thwart most would be hooligans.

Bullet cameras generally can focus further away from the camera and have a narrower field of vision. Good for mounting to the house and pointing towards a detached garage, for instance. Dome cameras are pretty much built for ceiling applications. Their lenses typcally are wide-angle to capture the most field of vision within close parameters. Dome cameras can also house PTZ cameras, or Pan, Tilt, Zoom. This gives you the ability to remotely focus on an object or person in question. Not really needed in your application. (but very cool)

Wired. Always.

Black and White. Color may sound cool, but has a hard time capturing quality images in low-light conditions.

If it's less than $100 for a camera, it's usually crap and/or will only last a year or so.

Hope that helps get you started!

One guy I talked to said you can buy a 4 channel set up probalby starting around $700 to $$$$$$$$$$$$

I think that would be 4 cameras and recorder?

He said that it has temp. recording. If the camera is activated it will hold that memory 10 minutes before it was activated then 10 minutes after.

I was thinking a guy should put one inside the house also.

You might also get a break on home owners Insur.?

Thanks for the reply guys, I saw a decent deal on Costco for 500$. I think I will go to some store and check some brand and models. Usually, a kit came with 4 channel and 250 GB or more. You can choose a kit that you decide to combine dome cam, bullet cam, Ir cam, and color cam with sound for inside the house. I was sceptic if they sould be wire or not. Apparently wire is the best as Ixos mentionned. Cameras can work in the range of -20 C to +60 C. But some of them can hold only -15 to +50. I will call the insurance compagny, maybe I can get a cheaper cost with some cam installed.
