I'm sorry, I do not believe Polaris should go back to Fuji. One of the main reasons I'm with Polaris is because they have an American motor in them.

last i remebered fuji have a plant in the states, plus it seems as though the japs build better engines then the americans so why not let them build an engine, plus you own a 1992 indy 440 wich is a fuji engine. you cant not like a company because it has a foren engine in it, seriously fuji engines are far better then the polaris liberty engines. how can you buy a brand new sled and have it blow up a few miles down the road.

My brother bought a brand new D8 and the piston broke in half the next day. Polaris just put a new motor in it, I don't know if it's gonna be any better then the last one though. Maybe we should just rip it down now and put in a big bearing kit and better pistons now eh?
Kinda what I was thinking.....if Polaris tries putting the same **** piston in they can shove it up their asses.
That is exactly what they are going to do. Polaris has no fix for this problem yet. I'm friends with a service manager from Polaris and as of yesterday there is still no fix to prevent this from happening again.
Polaris should go back to the 800 Fuji triple. I have 6600 miles on mine with 140 psi in all three cylinders. I have never had a rebuild or had to open my motor up for any reason!
Cheers
I'd love to see a 800 Trip in a IQ Chassis...but Polaris would never go for it due to the "Costs" and if they were too, the price of the sled would be Sky High. Is Fuji still Building engines for anyone?

they need to bring back fusion!!!
I'm with you. I love my fusion. it has been good to me
I was being sarcastic about that, i understand that most were ok sleds, but its the reputation of the fusion all over again. who wants to buy a used dragon that wont have warrenty and you dont know about how long the pistons will last. would you pay 7500 for a 1 year old sled with 1200 miles on it? i wouldnt. i would pay 3600 for a fusion that if something happens to the engine, i can toss it in the ditch and put a real engine under the hood.
Did I just see MC give a Fusion a thumbs up? I mean a twin 900 motor!!!!

This post is considered "no good" by the community with a rating of -6. View it anyways?
I would never buy another polaris if the motor wasn't made in america. The fuji motors were good but is about supporting America now! If we keep giving them money they will likely start to get as smart as fuji was. (At least I hope) To get back on subject I gave my 2009 800 IQ with 1500 miles a compression check last night and it was around 119-120. I thought they were suppose to be around 135 so I went and bought a new compression guage and it read the same. I took my power valves out look down at the piston and it seems to me like there is alot of blow by. It was hard to tell but the piston wash looked good. I really like this sled nowthat the new map is in it and really hauls to mail. Can poeple report back what they have for compression and what it is suppose to be. Thank you
I have a 01 xcr and they said they are suppose to be 135lbs for comppression and the most I have ever got was 125 and the sled runs perect and it has 5000 miles

Correct me if I am wrong but from what I have read in my investors books, polaris is assembling the engines in oseola wi but the parts for the engines come from world wide markets.

The XCR 800 new off the show room floor should have 145lbs of compression per cylinder. My 2003 XCR has 140lbs of compression in all three cylinders and has just over 6600 miles on it. From what I have seen most new 800 dragons seem to be at 135lbs per cylinder for compression but I have also read some are as high as 145lbs. Anything below 120 lbs is not good!
Cheers

you realy think everysingle part of a polaris snowmobile is american?
seriously.
so your saying we should give polaris all our money and eventually they will make good engines? come on get your head out of your a$$. as long as people keep buying there gona keep making junk, better for them cost less to build and less to fix. if people stoped buying they would see ohh maybe we better stop building junk engines. now i am all for polaris but seriously this has to stop. I have been hearing it's more than just pistons, the cylinder bores are poor for dimensional tolerances. It is very disappointing, the 800 has more real quality issues than the 900 CFI did in Fusion. They dropped the Fuse 900 after 2 seasons, the 700 fusion engine after one, the 700 IQ engine after two. Polaris needs to stop running away from their problems and take care of their loyal customers which seem fewer every day.
If they don't believe in themselves then they are not on the road to being a major player again in snowmobiles. If snowcheck sales are down, I hope they have a back up plan for the fall.

Polaris will do the same thing they did with the Fusion. They will release the next great thing and forget about previous problems completely and leave all the owners out in the dust.
My guess is they will release a program that makes the pistons last until the warranty is up. Maybe some day we will see if they figured out how to make a crank last longer than 3000 miles.
Polaris should quit with the big bore twins, since they keep proving time and time again that they have no idea how to build them to last.
why was this givin a -4? i didnt see anything wrong with it, he was stating his opinion like all the other 50 some posts.

I checked my compression in my D8 a two months ago and it was 135 and 132 with a cold engine and 30 degree outside temp. I put 110 miles on my next ride and checked it again. Almost same outside temp, cold engine and it was 132 and 129. I decided to check it again later in the week with a cold engine but the outside temp was about 42 and compression was 140 in both cylinders.
I pulled my pto side exhuast valve and everything still looks smooth. I have to pull the pipe to take the exhaust side valve out and haven't had time to do so, but i'll report when i do. I think sunday will be my sled cleaning day and i should get it done then since the sled will be stripped down pretty far.

If I had the backing I'd license or buy the XCR 800 design and start producing them here. Imagine an updated version using today's technology. With readily available conversion kits and aftermarket speed parts, it's just wanting to happen.

had to register with this service just to reply after reading your thread. bought an '09 assault this year... first burn down with 420 miles on it, complete top end rebuild and guess what...second burn down now with 1200 miles. The sled is awesome but reliability counts for something. Polaris has no idea why this is happening. They have bantered about going to a 2 ring piston but they seem to feel that it is a problem with the fuel map between 3 and 6 thousand rpm. So I am getting another rebuild but I feel that another burn down is inevitable without a true fix so I am considering selling the sled.

i'ld buy 1 from you, i put a 99 xcr 800 motor in my 96 xlt, with slp pipes and clutching and delta force 3 reeds. this motor is so responsive, its incredible. i left the xlt gearing as is and the sled will do 104 mph in about 3/4 mile on g.p.s, speedo is reading 115 mph, 1.5 short track. i'm probably going to extend to 136 inch or even 144. or start over and figure out another newer chasis for the same motor. if my 06 fusion 700 blows after the warranty i will seriously think about using it for a new home for that motor. big bore kit all the way too.

2004's were not the greatest nor were 2003's. From my experience the 2002 800 Edge Xs were awesome, and even more insane if you ran them on regular fuel with the ignition switch on "premium". Tell your buddy that.

No-way are they going to give you a new sled. They should/will fix that one unless they can prove your the reason it is breaking.
Just got back from a week in mexico, would have rather been riding somewhere but gotta do something for the wife now and again. Sled is "fixed" again. New pistons and cylinder block again. Also polaris claims to have figured out the mapping and a new flash was added. I also hear that polaris is working with mercury outboards to figure this out and my dealer expects at least one more update before the snow flies again. thanks god for that 2 year engine warranty because I remain skeptical
