What do you guys think about the Pro-x 440's? Looking for a sled for my fiancee. Theres an 02' with 1000 miles on it for $1200 for sale locally. Are these the engines that are real finicky? Thanks,
Josh

Yes they are finicky as far as jetting goes. They like to be riden hard also. Not a trail sled if that is what you are looking for.

This one is fan cooled. I have seen others that are liquid cooled. She wouldnt beat the snot out of it so I would have to occasionally. It looks like its in great shape. Not sure what to do. I really wanted to get her something like an xcsp 500 with reverse and possibly electric start. Shes ridden my 700 and it scares her a bit but with more time on it she would be more confident. I want something for her that isnt quite as heavy.

Mine is a liquid and it runs like a raped ape. It has lots of modifications and has been converted to lets say, non race, rider friendly components.
Both fan and liquid are made to run hard so I don't belive its the best choice for a girlfriend.
Don't know where your at, but a friend here in Mid-Michigan has a 99 xc500 for sale for 1300 bones w/2500 miles

Sounds like a good deal but I am in Upstate NY. Not sure if I want to take a road trip to Michigan to pick up a sled.

For 1300 in good condition, might be worth the trip.....
The wife only bought me the sled, so that she can get one this year :( Guess I have to get her one.

dont not get this sled. This motor is so finiky and has had many issues with bogging. I know im not the only person to ever have problems with this motor. and as far as it being reliable...thats hardly the case. just my opinion from someone who owned one. Do a search and you will see what im talking about.
for the type of rider you explained her to be this isnt the kinda of sled to get her. I would go with a 500 or 600. She will grow into the power as she becomes more comfortable with riding.

I rode a Pro-X Fan, same year, about 2 weeks ago. Gets the skis in the air, rides great, and does about 75 across the lake. The guy who owns it has been riding it for about a year and hasn't had any problems with it. For $1200 I'd pick it right up.

Please, I'm begging you, stay away from the fanner. The liquid is a nice sled, but the fan sucks.

This post is considered "no good" by the community with a rating of -6. View it anyways?
Fans are sweet and the liquids suck(big time). you have to premix the gas and they need to be riden hard. If its a fan buy it i'd a liquid if it has bean rebiult lately

I was trying to say this same thing in the politest possible way I spent enough on the 440 f/c motor to buy another sled.

Ripperd is right on, I have had to re-invent the wheel on my 440 liquid. The way it is now it is totally trailable and even my woman can ride it(35-50 mph) and it don't load up....Plus it is a awesome ditch banger

pro-x's are made to ride hard like said before wouldnt recommend for trails. Only problem is the jetting just get a tempa-flow or so on then its a great ditch-banging sled if thats what you are lookin for. Also xcr440vinny you can get injection i got it. Your best choice would be a 500 or 600 the way it sounds
