look im not trying to bash polaris, i love polaris, they are probably my favorite type of sled... the srx is my fathers that i ride, i dont choose, personally id enjoy to get the 2009 IQ shift. nor am i saying that my engine is much more reliable. at 6500 miles my engine blew. im not saying all the polaris engines, my dad's friend has a XC with over 12,000 and still running strong. im just saying that the newer Liberty engines put into these 800 sleds are not as reliable as they should be.

Would love to have been the person to open that up and scratch my head, I bet that most dealers and maybe even the factory has never seen one that bad.
The wife only bought me the sled, so that she can get one this year :( Guess I have to get her one.

Wow, that is pretty serious, I was mad at my sled for bailing on me up north on the last day of a trip this weekend, but I am having a hard time being mad anymore after seeing that. Good luck Cody!

Your kidding right?
The polaris liberty small block 500/600 and even the 700/800 big blocks (minus the crank/clutch balancing problems on SOME sleds) are an EXTREMELY reliable and a pull and go sled, in the edge chassis its a very good pair, go out and ask anyone if they were satisfied with theyre edge/liberty engine, id be willing to bet most are.
Polaris really never nailed the CFI on the head, and some have problems, but there are ALOT that are still running very strong.
Your last sentence makes no sense both gramatically and factualy. Get your facts straight before you run your mouth.

the larger bore Liberty engines are having piston problems with the single ring, thats all im saying, i agree the 600 are 100% reliable and solid as an engine, but there is just to much for the cranks and piston on the larger engines.

i mean am i crazy for thinking the Polaris engines are not as reliable as they should be (when it comes to the the larger bore snowmobiles). if you guys feel that im just rambling about nothing, i will not say another bad thing about the polaris engines, well at least about this STUPID single ring piston problem.

Are you tlakign about the 09 800's? SPECIFY, the older larger libertys never had any single ring problem, nobody knows WTF your talking about, WHICH SLED? The 09 800's are haveing problems, yes, is it because of single rings? could be, but bad mapping also has a play in it etc.. do youre homework and stop just saying what you read in some ****ty thread on HCS.

Remember, this is a Polaris site, so watch what you say about them. Even when they keep breaking over and over people here will still think the sun shines from Polaris' ass. The problem is those are the exact people who are causing the problems. Why should Polaris make a reliable big bore sled when people will continue to buy their junk and make up excuses. The only things Polaris has done right recently is the 600 and the Shift lineup. But I guess Polaris was selling too many Shifts and not enuf garbage so they had to remove them from their lineup.

I didnt relize that Polaris owned this site?
I am not arguing what your saying, so I just want you to know that.
You see there are fanboys in every sport and area of life. (dodge vs ford vs chevy)
I am from a archery backround, and well, I can tell you this, its gets much worse than this sheep following that polaris may or may not have.
When I started looking for a snowmobile this year I was dead set on buying an F7 but after talking to people and really analyzing my selection, I relized that the F7 was not the sled that I needed to START my snowmobile career with.
I looked near and far and when I came across the Polaris my wife bought me, I tried my darndest to find a reason NOT to buy it.
The truth of the matter is I LOATH their ATV's and wouldnt buy one if it was the last ATV on the market......I think they are the biggest piece of junk you can spend your money on.
So with that in mind, I was on a mission to dismiss the Polaris as a viable option to fit my needs.
I spoke to freinds, read as much as I could find, and made a final decission when I went and saw what great shape the sled was in.
I would never buy a NEW snowmobile, so I give all the sleds some time to be out there and get the bugs/problems worked out of them.
I am in the market for a second sled this summer and will belooking at all brands with a clearer understanding of what to look for, thanks to this site.
I will be looking at all brands, thanks to this site.
The wife only bought me the sled, so that she can get one this year :( Guess I have to get her one.

This is reminding me of in December when the engine in my '04 F150 blew up and I had to spend almost 9 grand to fix it. Everyone jumped on me with "I bet you hate Ford now! It's such junk!"
Of all the '07 Dragon 700's out there, I've only ever heard of two with major issues. This one, which seems to have grown off the lemon tree and a guy who used to frequent this site with the name "sledwrecker" who toasted his top end the first year he had it. Now he seems to have fallen off the face of the planet so I have no idea how it's holding up.
As far as I know the two other guys on this site with '07 Dragons, Ditch-Banger and Student Driver, both ride their sleds very hard and haven't had to replace anything engine-related.
I like to say if it's mechanical, it has a chance of breaking. It sucks when it happens to you. Not that long ago in 2004 I knew of a lot of Ski-Doo 600 HO SDI engines that would just lose compression and need to go in for repairs with much less than 2000 miles on them. I know of one that blew up twice in 3500 miles. That guy still rides a Ski-Doo now, doesn't have his '04 anymore but it didn't keep him from staying with the brand. Perhaps everyone should inform him that because he had some problems Ski-doo is nothing but junk and he should switch?
What about another guy from our area here who had a brand new '09 Crossfire 800? Less than 1000 miles on it at the start of this season and it was back at the dealer getting pistons. Shall we drive to Theif River Falls and burn down Arctic Cat because they build nothing but junk?
They all break. It's a fact. So many variables go into longevity. How it's ridden, how it's maintained and sometimes just luck. One guy can have an '04 Polaris 800 with 15,000 miles on it that never had a wrench put to it and his neighbor could have the exact same sled with 2000 miles on it and has had to fix crank bearings or pistons or something.
Welcome to snowmobiling.
Every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. That means every day you see me, that's the worst day of my life.

When I said this is a Polaris site you knew I didnt mean owned by Polaris, just ran by Polaris diehards. And like I said earlier, Im sure people will come up with excuses as to why Polaris is still best. And thats the exact mentality that will keep Polaris building crappy sleds.
I agree the 700 is a good sled, but Polaris gave up on that too. At least this one lasted 2 years, twice as good as their last 700.But hey, its your hard earned money, not mine.
Polaris snowmobiles are quickly becoming a joke, but luckily they still have a handful of loyalists from when they actually built decent sleds.

my 700 leaned out at 1500 miles Problem wasnt like the 800s according to the shop guys, maybe bad fuel. it happened at the end of long ride i refilled my tank from cans i was carrying then siezed up after few miles returning back on a trail.. since then i added some gauges and attitude control box and tuned it to run 1200 deg max on long runs and 1150 in the powder.
