I'm wondering what kind of miles other people are getting on their Liberty small blocks, 500 and 600 engines before needing a rebuild or some engine work.
Recently, the mag side main bearing went out on my Liberty 500 VES engine in my '02 XC 500 SP. It only had about 4000 miles on it.
Be sure to post the year and model of the snowmobile, as well as the engine size.

3800 on my 05 XC 600 when I sold it, Ran fine. Small block Liberty engines are one of the most reliable pull and go ever, Ive only seen a few with engine trouble other than the occasional ring/piston failure.

I have 7000 miles on a 1997 xcr 440. It had a new jug, 1 piston and rings put in it around 3000 mile mark. But still on the original crank and bearing.
My buddy lost his crank on his 99' xc 500 last year but he is hard on stuff.
Can any of this be oil issues???
My brother has a bone stock 01' 600 x with like 7,200 miles. He uses polaris blue and now citgo S&S.
My mom has a 02' 600 x with 4,000 miles using blue.
I know you asked about small blocks but,
My dad just picked up a 02' xc 700(bigblock) with 3,000 miles. Guy before ran ves, dad switched over to blue.
I have a 03' pro x 700(bigblock) that has 6,500 miles. It got a new crank around the 2,000 mile mark. I have used all sorts of oils.
Does the mag side have an oiler on it??? I know the pto does.

woodbooga: (WOOD-boog-ah), n. regional dialect, common to areas of New Hampshire and Maine including the towns of Ossipee, Alton, Farmington, Acton, and Lebanon; one who attempts to obtain free firewood to fuel woodburning appliances in an effort to mitigate expenses related to home heating with fossil fuels. Frequently used as a term of derision by non-woodburners who mock the presence of loose bark and other wood waste in the beds of their pickup trucks.

1999 700 non ves has 9300 or so miles, never been touched. Still pulls like a freight train and sounds like a racer. Almost 7k on my 500, and weve never had to do any work on the motor. Two of the best sleds ever built i think.

I don't think so. I think it's just the gas/oil mixture that lubes that bearing. Can somebody else verify this?

I just turned 12,200 miles on a 03 pro-x 600. Never had engine apart still pumping 130 psi on both cylinders. Still starts on first pull down to 0 degrees.

Well over 12k on my mom's '01 600xcsp and just changed the crank and pistons this season as well as '04 cylinders that I had on hand.
Put on over 5k miles on my '08 600RMK 144" and blew a piston, almost the other one, scratched a cylinder and ruined the head. Crank is good however, waiting for my parts in the mail, should be up and running by this weekend and ready for the rest of the season. Still have 2 more years of warranty if anything happens to it it will be covered.
My used '07 600RMK 144" is running good and strong yet at 1400+. Hope it keeps it up all season and into next, I'll be happy.
Run good oil and clean gas and it will run good for a long time. Change your primary and secondary springs every 4k miles at a minimum. At least new bushings on the clutch weights if you know how to change them without damaging them. A good balanced clutch helps in the longevity of any engine, bigger bores are more crucial to this.
