The sled is at the dealer I used to work at. It came in with a bunch of other none current sleds last winter. When it arrived it needed the updates and stuff, but in the process of doing that Arvid found that the motor that is in it was designed to fail and used in research for motor development. Polaris was using it to see how the engine would fail to different things, like low oil, over heating, pre-ignition, and so on. Basically after spending about 40 hours working on it he couldn't get the motor to run without one of the problems happening during a test drive, so the chassis is for sale, but the motor is to be returned to polaris.

It's a 50th ann. 166er that has only 30 miles on it. I'm curious to know if I could drop another motor like a big block 800 or 700 VES in there. Exhaust wise I'm not to worried, but motor mounts and air box might be an issue.

Would like to hear others suggestions and input on the idea.

Find a way to put a big triple in it and you'll not be sorry.

Was thinking either a VES 800 twin with some major motor mods to get it to pull that track or an XCR 800 with some minor stuff done for a motor.

What do you guys think? is it possible to stick that big triple in there and the triple pipes or should I just go all out on the 800 twin?

Idk if i would go with a big triple your talking about alot of weight compared to a twin 800.. Especially if your going to be in deep powder.

Dont the 900 have the intake and exhaust on the same side. I would think swapping in anything besides another 900/755 would be more hassle than its worth.

Engines just cant be thrown into chassis they werent meant for. Whatever you expect the associated costs to be you can at least double it.

MJay is right here. Don't start something you may not be able to finish. There are bound to be a few 866,s & 755's around. Check ebay and craigslist.

^^^^I've had my eye on there two looking for an 866, but nothing yet.

The 866 and 755 have the intake and exhaust on the same side and are mounted very low in the chassis and the front is tilted up. I think that the newer IQ and RMK chassis have roughly about the same motor mount set up only the motor isn't tilted up because the throttle bodies are on the back of them. Now if I could change those mounts around a little to get everything where it has to be similar to the newer ones, putting the twin 800 in there wouldn't be all that hard.

As for cost I'm not really all that worried about that. If it comes out working like it was ment to be like that then that is all that matters. I really don't plan on having it just drop together and finished in the next few months, its more of a year or two type project.

I also haven't bought anything yet and possibly might not even start this project if the chassis sells before I come across enough funds to start.
