I bought my 06 Fusion new, it now has 2000 miles on it. I'm only getting around 400 miles on a set of Hifax. the last two sets was within 250 miles. the track is a 1.25" rip saw the dealer put on when I bought it. the dealer can't figure it out. Ive adjusted the limiter straps to pressure off the front of the chassis, the track tension is good. we've had great snow and have not riden on a lot of hard pack. I'm getting ready to put on my 5th set. My 88 indy 500 has 3000 miles on its current set and has no wear on its hifax.
can someone give me some ideas?

track too tight, not enough snow getting to the hyfax? Which way are you moving the limiter straps? Track alignment off?

After you first put them on ride for 3 or so miles and stop. Do this multiple times. The heating up and cooling down of the hifax will cause them to become more resistant to heat and last longer.

the limiter was brought up.
Track is good on tension, alignment, and we had great snow this season. even the dealership is puzzled on what is happening.
is there a after market brand that is more durable, harder that will resist the friction more?

My friend had new hyfax installed on his girfriends sled at the local dealer and I noticed therer was a lot of wear within few miles of easy riding. Found the track too tight. Dealer said it was right but it was way too tight. Had this problem last season with my sled and now set the track myself. (136" ripsaw) Now I'm getting thousands of miles instead of hundreds.

Check track tension. Fusion's also have boggies wheels up farther on the rails to make hyfax wear less. I beleive i still have the stock hyfax and I have about 2000 miles on it.

Thats still too tight. Run it as loose as possible without skipping. Also check your track clips.

I'll loosen the track until it starts to skip, then tighten a touch. right now I have 1.5" sag at center.
I'll report back.

If I remember correctly, I set my track at 1" natural sag with new hyfax. Now have 1300 miles on cheapo Sno-Stuff slides with more than 50% to go.

I have darn near 1000 miles on new hyfax, still look new.
There is two holes for all the idler wheels with about a 1/4" diff in hieght for the wheels, make sure yours are mounted in the lower (forward hole) and also make sure you have all the idler wheels installed.
Run the track as loose as possible as long as you dont have studs, improper track tension plays havoc with the hyfax, the suspension and the speed of this sled. been there, loosened that.
what configuration is the ripsaw as far as clipping? is it closed every third hole? might need some friction disc installed there for better hyfax life?

i usually tighten it to were i can fit 3 fingers underneath the track. just tight to the point where you dont skip seems REALLY loose.

The instructions in the Polaris manual (3/8" between hyfax and track-clip with 10 pounds of weight applied) is WAY TOO TIGHT!! I burned a set of brand new hyfax within 200 miles. I completely agree with polaris91. As loose as possible without ratcheting the coggs.

Back when we ran about a 3/4" lug height on our tracks we got 3,000 mi on a set of slides, now with taller lug tracks we get alot less because the slides are farther from the snow. Remember that warm spell we had with the rain? After it froze again there was almost zero loose snow for lube for awhile. If you road a long ride during those days you could have worn a bunch off.

this has been an on going problem since day one. Its not a lack of snow issue.
tonight I put on new hyfax and loosened the track another 1". I have about 2.5 inches sag. its not skipping when I test rode it.
Just waiting for this blizzard tomorrow to bring about 12"-16" of powder.

are you running the colored hyfax or the original white ones. I know the colored ones do not last anywhere near the mileage as the white ones. I'm guessing it has to do with the plastic being a softer material on the colored ones. I've got about 2200 miles on my original hyfax on my fusion with quite a bit of mileage left in them. and heres a dumb question, but did they install the track backwards? not sure if that would cause problems or not. Also what do your track clips look like?
Polaris is my way out - Other people just use a door.
