I had about the same experience just a week ago on my ZR600. Was riding in some deep powder and started running like crap, low idle, no power, backfiring. I limped it back to the garage and one of the plugs was fouled bad. I swapped plugs and took it back out hittin drifts and did the same thing again. When I got it back to the garage I started it with the hood open and lights out and it was arcing all around the plug boot to the hex part of the plug. I replaced the boots and used used dielectric grease on them. I havent had a problem since then. Boots were probably bad and getting wet causing it to arc around the boot which in turn fouled the plug. Might be something to check, sounds like you obviously got something wet if it ran good before runnin through the water.
