Just curious if anyone else here smokes. Cigarettes that is. I've wanted to quit for years and have tried a couple of times but never really made it longer than a couple of months at most. I bought some cigarettes today and the cashier which is a friend of mine asked me if I was sure I wanted them because they have went up in price. She told me they went from $3.98 to $5.98 a pack, and are going up another $.60 by may. I guess now I have even more incentive to quit smoking.

6.50 a pack here. My wife smokes. I smoked for 15 years but quit 4 years ago. I'm 34 years old and have to suck on an asthma inhaler every day of my life because of the smokes. I'm better than I was when I quit but still not good. Throw em away before you regret it.

my mom, is killing her self smoking. she coughs and sometimes can barely breath. she needs an inhaler all the time. but what ever i have told her to quit countless times but hey, why listen to the person who isn't killing them self.

I smoke and buy the cheapest available which is $8.50 for a pk of 20. Id like to quit but dont see it happening anytime soon. Its cheaper to be a crackhead than a smoker these days.

$2.00 jump in price? Ouch. My sister smokes...only one in the family that does. She is usually tight on money, so hopefully the price increase will push her to quit even more. I never have smoked, never plan on smoking. Between school and my toys, I'm usually tight on money the way it is.

I am a smoker also.

Here in Michigan, our cigs are currently about $4.50 to $5.00 a pack. There is a national price increase this spring on all types of tobacco, will be about $0.62 a pack here. The people that roll their own cigs to save money are going to get hit the hardest, bulk tobacco will approx. triple in cost!

I know what you mean about quitting, it's very, very hard to do. As an incentive to quitting, I am going to daily, take the amount of money that I spend on cigarettes, and put it in a large clear jar(so I can watch it add up!) and then use that money as a down payment on a new sled If I fail and start smoking again, I lose all the saved up money and have to give it to my wife and daughter for a shopping trip!

The plan is in place, now I just need to set my quit date....

Mike

Me too - but 9 years ago this summer. Best decision I ever made.

A good book to help - Alan Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking. Get it. Read it. I got 13 pages in, and haven't touched a cigarette since. Even with the pressure of my wife smoking for two more years after I quit.

It was $7.50 a pack when I quit, it was jumping to $10 a pack when she quit. I have no idea what it is now. Just glad I'm not spending that money.

I quit a while back. I feel SO much better now. I just quit. I smoked a few times after but I only wanted one until I got one and started smoking it. I think it's really just the first week then it's all in your head. Good luck buddy.

Just as I was reading this thread an ad came on tv.. You have Lung Cancer, you have heart disease.. on and on.. "If you're not planning to quit smoking, what are you planning? Call 1-866-NY-QUITS for free nicotine patches or gum.. new york state smokers' quitline."

I don't smoke, but a lot of my friends do.. I think it's stupid. Quit hurting yourselves :(

same reason gas is so high...tobacco is an inelastic economic product...no matter what the price of tobacco if you smoke, you smoke, price isnt gonna stop you from buying your habit. My gal got me started last summer luckily its still only about 3.75 to 4.00 here. iv tried quitting but ill admit its not easy, still have em on the weekends. I would deffinantly like to quit for good but when your job is sitting behind a computer all day getting outside for some fresh air and a cig is like a refreshment. its dumb i know but you honestly dont know what its like until your addicted.

I wish my sister and brother-in-law would quit. If they would maybe they could afford to get out of that trailer.

I always say I'm going to quit after each pack, but I always manage to get another pack. I've only been smoking for a year or so now, and it is the most addicting thing ive done.

I remember I tried to quit many times and failed but after about a month of gasping for air and hacking so hard that I would puke I finally got it through my think head to quit. Honestly it was so easy for me the last time just because I felt so horrible.
