I agree with some of the peoples opinions, it is a nasty habit. And a person who smokes is knowingly causing themselves future health problems. When I started I was 14 and at that age a person isnt really thinking of future effects and anyone that smokes and has tried to quit knows it one of the toughest habits to break. Like I stated before, the price hike on cigarettes will give me more incentive to quit, becuase theres no way in hell I'll pay $6 or $7 for a pack of cigarettes.

I'll probably catch all kinds of crap over this but oh well.

I smoke, have tried to quit, and in the process of quiting again.

For those of you who worry about every little thing, here's some advice take it or leave it I don't care. Life is too short to sweat the little things. Noone gets out of life alive so enjoy your life and live it how you want too. I type this as I am on my way to the funeral home for my Uncles viewing, he smoke for over 50 years. He died suddenly from natural causes (not cancer). He was 76 years old, and at that age lived longer than his mother, father, one brother, and sister. All that is left on my Dad's side of the family is my Dad. Being a non smoker doesn't mean that your going to live longer, it gives you a chance to live longer. Noone can hide from that phone call when your time is up, and noone knows when that call is going to come.

B/S, so why don't you forget about seat belts, quit wearing helmets, screw speed limits and put a radio next to the bath tub.

We can take precautions in our lives. We are more well informed than our parents and grand parents and can make smarter decisions.

But think about those around you, second hand smoke or the innocent drivers and pedestrians who through no fault of their own have to live with the results of someone "who don't care".

all of that is true, but no one ever said hey i have a baby laying a foot away from me when i smoke, your just being stereotypical saying that all smokers are wreckless or what not, all the guy was trying to say is, hey its my decision, dont look down at me because you dont do it. If he dies from it, so be it, its still his decision, just like snowmobiling, some choose to follow all safety regulations, and some choose to go 60 mph on a trail. I dont personally know him, and im not saying he is exposing anyone to second hand smoke or not, but i know i dont, and i would never let one of my younger siblings seeing me even doing it let alone having one around them. So dont be quick to say every smoker is giving subject to second hand smoke.

It was 2.50 for a can of skoal and now its 4.50.And a pack of marbs are 4.75 on the res. I should stop dipping.I can have any where from one dip to 2 cans in one day. It depends on what im doing. And i have a cigar every once and a while.

I will most likely never smoke. I have asthma, almost died from a attack when i was like 6 or 7 in Gaylord, and being around smokers hurts me. I almost never have my inhaler, mainly because i only use it if I'm having trouble breathing. When ever i really inhale any smoke my throat and lungs get really tight and it gets hard to breathe. I think if i did smoke I wouldn't be able to breathe at all. My mom used to smoke, but quit when she got pregnant and hasnt really smoked since then. Recently my dad has really started smoking cigars, but he has always smoked cigars and has had pipes. My dad also drinks a lot, but mainly American and some Canadian beers (not much Bud anymore for him). Its ridiculous the amount of money on beer and cigars he spends. Ive always said im not going to smoke or drink, maybe have a beer every once in a while when i get older. My brother has been drinking for a long time, and since he turned 21 he started drinking more. I just dont really see the point of it. So far i havent drank any alcohol since i was really young, and ive never smoked. Im not planning on starting anytime soon either. Ill put that money towards my college, and toys. Mainly toys. I have an extreme addiction to speed i need to fill.

I quit chew 2 years ago by using mint chew. Then my source for mint chew disappeared. So, in the past 6 months I have chewed yeah.. but 1 can lasts a month. When I do buy it I get the cheapest stuff they carry. I was just about to order a few cans of mint from their website but money is very tight right now as me and my girlfriend both might be unemployed very soon and I am paying off my motorcycle and truck within the next month and a half.

I will never get back into smoking. I have one now and I can't even finish it. I just feel it clogging up my lungs and taking away my energy.

I don't always wear a seat belt, have rode without a helmet around the house, and often speed. I do not smoke around my children or in the house for that matter, I also do not smoke in the presence of non smokers, as it is somewhat disrespectful to them. So before you jump down my throat get to know all of the facts.

I smoke too, and really want to quit, but just have too much going on now....If you smoke one pack a day that costs $5.00, here's what you'd save:
$35.00 a week
$840.00 in six months
$1820.00 a year
$9100.00 in five years
$18200.00 in ten years

Maybe I should take my own advise!!!

I was on chantix for a while, I work nights and sleep during the day. The only down side to chantix I found was the ****ed up dreams, which caused me to loose sleep. For me being tired in the car on my way home, and sometimes finding myself doing micro-sleeps on my way home was not worth it.

This is exactly what i was trying to say earlier, people shouldnt just sterotype smokers, not everyone is the same as the people in those "THINK" commercials or whatever. Im just like you but yea i have a smoke from time to time.

Wow congrats to you man! Nice job on seeing the light. It takes a bigger man to say yes I will quit, it takes a weak man to say no.

This thread comes at a bad time. I got a phone call this morning from my girlfriend balling and leaving work. Her 55 year old father woke up this morning, fell out of the bed, was disoriented and slurring his speech. Turns out his right lung filled with fluid as he was sleeping causing pneumonia. A severe side effect of COPD. COPD is what he has that was caused by his smoking. His wife called and the ambulance came. This is his 3rd trip in a year I think. It is really taking a toll on the family. Not only is the pneumonia an issue but his CO levels are all messed up because he also has to use a bypap machine to sleep with so he can breathe without passing out.

All because of stupid freaking cigarettes.
