^^^^ Nice! Makes sense...
Again, a tip for those that want to quit..buy ALAN CARR'S EASY WAY TO STOP SMOKING.
It helped me immensely. I've read some stuff on this thread that the book addresses like the "break by smoking" feeling people like, the "go outside and get fresh air" idea, all the brainwashing that the smoking companies have put into us.
Yes, they can't advertise so much anymore, but they had years of brainwashing before the government stepped in, and those ideas have been passed from smoker to smoker over the years.
If you think it "relaxes" you...that's not actually the case...your heart rate jumps with every cigarette (which biologically isn't relaxing), and as soon as you're done one smoke, you (consciously or sub-consciously) start thinking about the next one...also not very relaxing.
Smokers (remember, I WAS one) defend their addiction with every fiber of their being, because they have been brainwashed to believe it's OK, it's MY BODY, it's MY CHOICE...if you realistically look at it, it's all brainwashing.
It takes one hell of a lot of dedication to quit...it was the hardest thing I've EVER had to do. But, it was also the best decision I've ever made.
FYI - I still get cravings every 6 months or so, and they are INTENSE. But, why give up $10+ per day, and my health (I feel SO MUCH BETTER after 9 years of being quit) for some "brainwashing" when I'm stressed or having a bad day or whatever?
I hope, those of you that smoke, are able to quit. That $$ can go into your sleds or other toys...a better place for it, don't you think? If you've tried, and failed, but still want to, try again!
You'll have nothing but support from us on here, I'm sure...hell, use this thread or this area as a bitch session if you need to.
Quitting, by far, will be the best thing you've ever done. Trust me, I've done it. Pack or more per day for years...but now, in a couple years, it'll be longer quit than I was smoking. And, I feel so much better every single day - I can breathe just as good as I could before I started smoking, I have more energy, and I don't get sick nearly as much as I used to. It's AWESOME.

I quit 3 years ago....best thing I ever did.
Me too - but 9 years ago this summer. Best decision I ever made.
A good book to help - Alan Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking. Get it. Read it. I got 13 pages in, and haven't touched a cigarette since. Even with the pressure of my wife smoking for two more years after I quit.
It was $7.50 a pack when I quit, it was jumping to $10 a pack when she quit. I have no idea what it is now. Just glad I'm not spending that money.
my mom bought the book and hasent had a but in 5 days

^^^Yeah, thats the reason I started this thread, cigarettes here didnt just go up the $.60, they went up $2.00. Just a load of crap in my opinion. Smokers are going to be paying for kids health care? Why smokers, why not tax the piss out of alcohol.

I bought a pack of Marlborough for my parents the other day and was completely bewildered that they are spending $ 7.00 a pack. I know the prices are going up but I still don't see the need for them to smoke. They have tried to quit but have been unsuccessful. My family has lost 5 people from Cancer caused by cigarettes or cigars.

Hmmmm... the Goberment Controlling your behavior??
Sure glad thats not going to happen to Gas, Sleds, Booz, freedom, jobs, etc.
Seen a thing about the tax on AIG bonouses, says its illegal to Tax one specific group, but they dont say nothing about smokers paying 4X the cost of the product.
If you cant quit cold turkey like me, plus I enjoy a smoke once in awhile.
I just learned to cut back slowley, I usually will onely have a smoke with morning coffee on the way to work and maybe one on the way home.
Fri, Sat drinking beer... still working on that.

My girlfriend and I quit last week. Today was day 8 with no smoke. I already feel better. It is tough and I've almost gone back a couple of times but I got through it.
So far so good, gotta keep it up.

^ AWESOME Jeff! When I quit years ago I remember hitting 1 week. I kept saying to myself... Self, if you smoke one. You just lost all the hard work you have done to make it all these days without it! It worked. It is straight up will power.

I smoked a pack and a half a day from 13 to 30.
At 30 I was still racing the downhill mountain bikes with a pro licence under the name Gravity Worx Racing, and it was starting to effect my results in a bad way. I could still bring it and finish with consistant top 10s, but I was dieing at the end and was dropping from a 3rd 4th average finish to an 8th 9th average.
I wanted to continue much more than I wanted to smoke ciggerettes and I KNEW (at that time) I wasn't going to stop getting stoned before the races. I know it's not politically correct, but it's part of the story and the truth of where I was at that time.
One of the 2 had to go and the smokes did.
I was an absolute prick for about 3 weeks straight, as my wife will still remind me on occassion. lol
But she was also very supportive and I never went back.
That life is behind me now,
But I'm 42 and haven't smoked in a dozen years.
It still sounds good when I'm drinking once in a while, but I just can't go there.
I know, burn one even when drinking and I'm there again.
It was hard enough quitting the first time, no need to repeat it.

I quit smoking about a year and a half ago and my wife did last year. What I cant understand is why it is acceptable to raise the prices on ciggaretes so often. It just seems that smokers are unfairly taxed for doing something that is legal. Is it because of the burden to the health care system? Thats the only reason I can think of.

Sorry, but any of you still smoking with all the evidence of damage to your self we have out there. YOU HAVE NO WILL POWER. Let the negative ratings begin, I really dont care.
My mother and EX step father, both smoked. I harrassed them constantly for months on end and they finally quit.
If the price per pack dont kill you the lung cancer will. I just hope you dont take some innocent kid (second hand smoke) with you when you go.
Smokers make me sick.
How about people that drink or do drugs? Do they make you sick too?
Drugs yes......
Never heard of anyone dieing from SECOND HAND DRINKING from just being in the same building with the drinker......
but to clarify YES alcoholics make me sick also.
LIFE IS SHORT.....why is a persons life so bad that they need chemicals to get by?
Why not just have your self put to sleep and give your organs to some kid, WHO WANTS TO LIVE....
I wouldnt call it second hand drinking but if theres an alcoholic parent in the house, or two, they can really f*ck up a kid for the rest of their life, I would know, my granparents were alcoholics, my uncle is an alcoholic. It may not kill you if your around an alcoholic family member, or at least not kill you physically.
"As I walk through the valley of death I fear no one, for I am the meanest motherf**ker in the valley!"

Awesome Jeff! You are on the home stretch now! I have a buddy that quit a month ago also. He said he would buy 2-3 packs every Tuesday. So he has saved 8-12 packs. He is putting that money in a jar every Tuesday now and is SHOCKED he has so much money in the jar and is even more shocked that he is breathing better already.

Thought you posted above that you switched to pipe tobacco
My neighbor told me today that he buys tobacco by the pound to make cigs. He said it used to be 12 bucks a few years ago.. now it is 40. That was proceeded by about 1 full minute of laughing from him trying to laugh.

I'm trying the slow down and quit method...only allow myself 4 a day...until this pack is gone. Then it's all over with. I'm also seeing a difference in the money saved and it's only been a week. (about $6.00 a pack here) Feeling better too. The house actually smells good again!! Now it's time to clean and get things white again!!
