No new sled, something more useful than a sled. Costs more than a new sled. But it's free for us haha

Ok so today I pulled the sled outside and sprayed the inside down with cleaner and let it soak and sprayed it out. Then I put the rmk secondary on.

Ok, so Artic's friend finally came through with the motor plate and some other goodies. brought the box home tonight and got the motor in atleast. Got a little problem though the airbox will not fit...LOL
My steering post is getting in the road. Not sure what I should do here. Do I notch the airbox out to clear the post? Using the original 500 air box is out the carb holes are too close togeather...

Installed oil pump and squeezed in the air box this evening.
If anyone out there has a cylinder for this, I am looking for one.

nice project 500indy01, i have a 1998 indy 500, and i liked it, it was a nice sled, but i am selling it to get a xc600sp. your just dropping in the 600xc, lol. heyy if you need any parts for anything, check out my thread in the "suspention, shocks, handlebars and risers" section of the sled parts classifieds.
good luck with your project!
you should add a edge seat & tank to that sled!!!!!!
you should have just used some K&N filters, much easier than squezzing in that airbox!!
Present sleds:
1998 Polaris Indy 500: red screens, red/black Sportech handguards with billet mounts, red C&A pro Razors with 9” sharpers, red gripper running board trim, red hyfax, billet pull handle, billet brake lever, silver front & rear bumpers, low black windshield, custom graphics, clutched (Primary: Polaris blue primary spring #7041080, 10m5 weights, sheave/belt clearance is set at .015''. Secondary clutch: 42/36 helix, SLP black driven spring), geared (dropped 1 tooth), 121" x 15" x 0.91" Camoplast/Polaris track with 96 studs, stripped warning decals, white-faced edge chassis speedometer & tachometer.(For sale).

Thanks jesse, yeah I wanted to put in K&N's, but Artic was totally against it. But the squeeze on the airbox wasnt too bad, had to cut alittle out for the sttering shaft and it popped right in.
The suspension has been changed over to Xtra 10 stuff, both front end and skid, but I'm not impressed with the shocks...LOL

Ok, so here's a question I have been thinking about for the last couple of days.
CDI and Coil pack. since this is an XC 600 bottom end and XC700 topend. which coil and cdi do I use or do they both use the same ones?
And does anyone have them forsale???

After further review and a few moments of deep thought....LMAO
the bottom end is a 600, thus you would want a 600 cdi to match the electrical in the bottom end. The topend is just the end result of all the electrical work being done at the bottom end. And the bottom end in the 600 is identical to the 700, and if I looked hard enough for part#'s they probably both use the same cdi. So in all actuallity both will work, so , whichever one I find first will go in....

If you can make that air box work, go for it. Id much rather have an air box than the filters, but in my case the filters was much easier i couldnt get an air box to fit on my project very easily, and i ruined two good air boxes trying to hack one up to fit in it.
You would want to go with a 700 cdi. The bottom end of the 98 xc 600 and 700 are exactly the same. You can go with the 600 but its not going to have quite as much power as it can.. What cast are those cylinders? If they are 220s, try and get a cdi off a 98 xc 700.. If they are the 824s the later years 99 and up 700s will work. Well either will work, but the 98 xc 700 cdi will put the most power out, as long as you got the 220s. But if you find a deal on either cdi, just grab it cuz during the winter they can sell for up to 200 bucks.. Not cheap.
Also, if you havent already bolted your top end down.. Your supposed to just snug the cylinder base bolts up, and torque the head bolts to the cylinders first before you torque the base nuts down. Quote originally posted by 500Indy01

Well either will work.. But your better off with the 700 cdi. And the bottom ends are the same, But the cdi boxes are not. The stator and other parts are the same for both sizes. The cdi has nothing to do with matching the electrical in the bottom end. The stators for both size engines are the same.. The cdi has more to do with the timing and stuff..

Interesting read
http://www.snowmobilefanatics.com/forum/...splay.aspx
"For instance 1998
The 600 and 700 have different curves on the cdi. I believe the 700 may be hotter but the ticket is to get a 1998 RMK or a 1997 SKS/RMK cdi because they have a better performing timing curve yet. If your engine is built and you are going to drag it you can put on a 1997/98 440 xcr cdi and you have a rocketship....This is not recommended for riding but short races only. You will burn down if you ride it very long with the 440 cdi. I have not found this out 1st hand but this is what I am told. I have put a xcr 440 cdi on my 700 and I did notice a difference for sure."
http://www.snowmobilefanatics.com/forum/...splay.aspx
After further research it looks like the 700 CDI is the one to go with...

Westman, the third set of pics in the thread show the airbox hoked up and ready for service.
Artic I will look for the rmk cdi. You havent steered me wrong (yet)...LMAO
Westman, Whats the deal with torquing the head before the base?...I suppose it is to keep the head from warping to fit the cylinders if they are torqued down first? This is the only logic that I can think of. Guess I'm too used to single cylinders...LOL

Not sure, but thats the way its supposed to go together. See the note on this page of the manual. If you need any other things, i might be able to help with that. There is 13 pages i just uploaded, but the posted one shows to tighten the head first.

I can tell you that sled is going to fly with the 700 in it when you get it all tuned in. Mine isnt even tuned in yet, and it rips hard, but then again im pushing a little more compression, twin pipes, and some clutching that also isnt dialed in yet.
Are those allen head bolts on the head of the cylinders? If so, thats odd ive never seen those. Im guessing you put those on yourself.
