Hey guys,
I'm going to be painting my truck this summer and I'm looking for advise on what brand of paint to use, and what colors.
Right now I'm leaning towards doing a flame job on the hood and fenders (I know it's over done, but I like it anyways) If you have any ideas besides flames, I'm open to hearing them to (just not to complicated please)

Some girls probably wouldnt mind. Do you plan on painting it yourself or taking it to a shop?

I'm doing it myself, my brother in law has a paint booth I can use, I might use his air gun or I might get my own, I haven't decided yet.

Definitely go with a base coat/clear coat, will last alot longer. As far a brand, depends on what you want to spend. If money isnt really a big concern I would go with PPG or R-M Diamont, 2 high end brands I've used for years and never had an issue. If you want to go economical, I would use Crossfire, its a Martin Seynor brand, Not sure who all carries it but I use to buy it at NAPA. About 1/3 the price of others and have a good quality clear coat. I sprayed my 92 Trans Am and my Porsche 944 with crossfire 3 years ago and its held up very well. As far as the gun, make sure you have the appropriate cap/needle/nozzle for the type of paint your spraying. With base/clear you want alot smaller than say spraying enamel or urethane.

Ok, I'm looking for cheaper but still decent, this is a 20 yr old truck after all :) I'll put the crossfire brand on my list of ones to look into. My bil says he uses Omni, has anyone heard of this?

Omni is another low end brand. Never used it myself but I know people that use it for painting stuff they dont want to stick alot money into. Will probably work fine also.

just e-mail every aftermarket company and get some stickers to plaster all over, i've wanted to do this to a vehicle for awhile now but don't know how good it would look.

ooohhhh yeah, good idea, do you think I could get stickers big enough to cover the rust spots?? Then I wouldn't have to fix them!!

omni is bottom of the barrel i use it for low end cars, anything nice gets Glasurit by basf its the best paint on the market its a little pricey,,,, ppg is also good, the martin semore at napa is ok but does not compare to Glasurit
and for the demo derby cars i use nothing but farm implement enamel it actually shoots pretty good, i painted some beater cars with it also

Same here, since 1973 our family has owned a body shop. We bought some Chromallusion (sp?) about 2 years ago, pretty sure thats what it was, I'll have to double check again. I'm pretty sure it was $150 or more a pint, which would come to about $1200 or so a gallon. Or maybe it was a quart. I'll dig back through some reciepts and find out for sure. They say your memory is the first to go.
