Ok, im done riding for the year. My 99 sks is at my garage, and i want to have this thing really nice by the time snow first touches down again, and i have a couple other sleds to work on. Im asking for all comments and suggestions on your SKS'! here's some of my issues i need help with.

What should i do to this sled- i have no more than 500 dollars to spend. I need help with knowing what type of clutching to buy- i went over this once on here, and got lost. Any thing else- pipes, powerpacks, reeds, etc. Tell me anything you've done, or think would be good.

how do i gut an airbox, and should i do it with this sled?

I need help fixing the big problem with this- i have two posts on this thing, and nobody has given the right comment yet. I have a ticking sound coming from the engine, the temp light comes on, and the exhaust pipe smokes like crazy- all after about a minute of riding. What should i check- the thermostat opens, the water pump is operatable, and the sled gives out it's normal performance.

Smaller problem- put on handwarmers, and rpm gauge goes to zero while sled runs fine.

I have ryde effex shocks in the front, fox racing in the back- how do i check what exact type they are?

I would appreciate any input i can get, not just on these things but anything- Make this the SKS post!

I suggest reeds and a can for starters and possipbly a pipe! Any used will do if you are on a budget! though if you by reeds I always get new peddles in case! I suggest leaving the airbox alone! And if you arent to far away I have a few rpm gauges layin around! and the clicking sound could be the water pump belt or possibly a bearing? you should puul your motor and look it over for cracks etc. and burp the cooling sytem! any questions just PM me!

Thanks,

Well i just got a SLP single pipe and can for a hundred bucks. I thought that wasn't to bad. If you look you could find some deals around for that kinda of stuff. I am thinking about some reeds cause my stock ones are not so good anymore. That is all for the upgrading i think. I am looking into putting a 144 suspension and track form a 03 SKS but we will see how that works out. As for the sounds i would check the water pump belt, something is wrong in their. Good luck with your SKS, I love mine.

Got the fox shocks and the boost bottle, tho i have heard bad things about them(bottle).
Does anyone know about how much that clutch kit would cost- that would be first.
Can somone also explain the whole thing about jetting- i don't know a thing about it

get an SLP boost bottle,8000 miles on mine and not probs, the power packs will make a huge difference,as with the boost bottles You have to stay away from the aluminum ones or ones with plug holders, they tend to damage boots.A clutch kit from like slp or hot seat will run a couple hundred, but worth the gains you will get IMO.And if you have stock jetting you can go down 2 sizes without any ill effects.I went 2 down on my xc6 and its still a lil rich, but its safe on really cold days.Jetting down reduces the fuel and lets more air in,just think of it like a car that has the choke messed up on,how it smokes and loads up cuz its gettin too much fuel and less air, open the choke let in more air and it runs great. You can pipe it also id go with a single pipe set up,but then you will have to jet and clutch as per the pipe manufacturers specs, which with SLP and hotseat they can help you out with the whole kit and kaboodle, and if ya have extra cash get a set of heads also. When ordering any part ask to talk to a tech so they can get you goin in the right and safe direction. And as with any engine mod you will more than likely need to run 91 or higher octane fuel, and if its not accesable to you on the trails you have to consider that, because a tank of low grade gas can damage the engine fast.

Change your jets, like go from 190 to say 185, depends on what you have now, your temps you run in, and elevation. I am at about 800ft, I have run 180-185 to -10 or so. On the 99xc not sure about the sks, the jets are staggered, so I run 2 different size jets.
