Most programs are being phased out due to cost cutting measures. To keep one going it can be rather expensive. I am seeing more and more schools around here cutting Industrial Arts programs. Which stinks because the jobs are becoming fewer and fewer. Most times when older teachers retire they just cut the program, rather than hire new teachers. This has become the paradox I have found myself in anyhow. Why I went into this field I wonder at times?

As far as your son goes:
Unfortunately this isn't what you want to hear but, you can't force him to do things you like and you can't live your life through your son. If he is really into it let it be, it's his choice to make. The best thing you can do is let him experience different things and you can PRESENT opportunities for him to try (not forcefully).

(Yeah me 700th post!)

congrats on the 700th post but damn dude it starts at choir then next thing you "dad i am gay and i met him in 6th grade choir" i am NOT trying to live my life through my sons eyes, i have my own now. the difference is i am alot older now and a little more experienced on life. i don't think he will end up the "other" way, but i do NOT want to be a blame if he does.
by the way he is the youngest i have out of 5 kids

Choir?

Well someone has to do it.

Buy him a sled or a car to work on, he might just out grow it.

Remember hes in 6th Grade, he may out grow it.

Give the kid some credit, when he sees who else is in Choir, he may just drop out.

Remember, he`s your kid, and give him some credit.

i would personally in this order. let kid ride sled under supervision. bmx/ skate boarding, i ride bmx and is almost therapeutic, and it keeps me in good shape and uses energy. build a go kart or something with a engine. bring to guitar center and look at guitars and drums. hunting youll think of something........don't want the kid to wear a dress

1990 cougar "need info on stock clutching, or perf. cluthing"
*tuned air box
*plastic 08 f8 skis
*new .85 track
*completely re-built the skid, sanded and painted all parts separately

Who knows, might be a great singer and be making millions because he joined choir. Most people I went to HS with were in choir, there were only a handful of people who were not. It really isn't that big of deal IMO....

Let him choose. I'm 15, but when I was in 6th grade, I'm pretty sure that I'd be pissed off if my parents made me do Choir when I was 11..

Dude, way to over-react. I was all-county choir in 5th and 6th grade. By 7th I didn't want to do it anymore. Let the kid try it. He'll either grow out of it or he'll enjoy it and it'll be a side thing. There have been plenty of athletes to come through my high school that have either been in choir or band, and been pretty good at that.

You can get singing scholarships as well. Just another option for possibly some help down the road.

And no. I'm not .

Seriously. Don't worry about it. Your Son will turn out just fine.

How many rich and famous rock singers got their start in the school or church choir??

Absolutely nothing wrong with choir. Your son won't turn out the way I feel you are stereotyping choir folks. I have know plenty of people who were in choir and it really is an art. They are excellent singers and can do some amazing things with their voices. It can really open up some opportunities. Let the kid do what he wants to do.

I love to sing and am absolutly horrible at it.

I wish every day that I was a better singer.

Let the boy sing.

You want the boy to bang on the drums. Who gets the attention, the drummer or the lead singer.

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

Oh god...

You sir, should not be a parent.

Just cuz a kid wants to sing doesn't make him gay. If you actually think that, well, I dunno. It just makes me shake my head and feel sorry for your kid.

Why don't you go tell James hetfield, sully erna, david dramain, vince neil, bruce dickinson, kurt cobain, corey taylor, steven tyler and such that they are for singing and see how far that gets you....

My brother and I were both in choir through out high school. I took it for the easy grade (I have absolutely no musical talent) My brother however is an extremely talented singer, he has won various awards and contests around the area, and no he is not either. Haha.

I hope I die like my grandpa did - quietly in his sleep... not like the rest of the people in the car.

Back when I was in grade 6 we had 3 choices. We had to take either band, art ot choir for grades 6,7,8. I signed up for choir in grade 6 (Art didnt interest me and band was a no for me). I must say it was the best thing I could have done. I met many new people and gained many friends (which I still have) and we got to travel all over manitoba. In grade 7,8 I chose art because the school didnt have enough students to continue choir in 7,8. If the school had enough kids for choir, no doubt I would have signed up for it.

I can assure you, letting your kid take choir wont lead to him being a fuit. Let your kid do what he wants to do.

I think if you have a problem with him in choir and not just singing as some people seem to think possibly get him rock band or something, then he can sing but he will be singing good music and not gay music like most of the choir teachers are forcing on the choir kids. And if you don't want him to sing at all buy an older sled and let him ride/help rebuild it maybe he will come around. I also don't think that all kids that are in choir are hay or turn up gay they just seem to be the over-achieveing type. Or you could just get him hooked on drugs and he won't want to do anything but watch t.v. and hang out in the basement.

Of course I am kidding about the drugs but thought you could use a cheap laugh.

I agree with these guys, how do you think the greats in music got started!! And who cares if he ends up being gay, hes your son!!! It shouldn't matter. Let him join if thats what he wants, he could be out starting fights, into drugs, alcohol, or worse!!!
