The first step is to get a shop manuel. Then once the engine is pulled and you take te heads off, check the valves and stuff and see if there to specs. Then once thats done ill give more info.

Depending what blew on it, your best bet for your wallet is going to the junkyard for a used motor.

I agree with arcticcatmatt, rebuilding an engine is unheard of these days. Any idea what happened? I know head gaskets are a common problem on the GM v6's, have you been mixing coolant with oil for a while? That's what happened to my friends monte carlo and ended up taking out a main bearing. If it's just something like a head gasket then yea, go for a rebuild. But, if you threw any kind of bearing it would be alot easier and probably cheaper to just put a new (used junkyard or something) engine in the car. Good luck, sorry for your loss.

ya i know its not the head gasket.
i am willing to rebuild cause nobody is rebuilding there cars anymore there ether scraping them or taking them to a shop, oil runs though my blood so i am going to fix it myself dont get me wrong i know shops are good well most of them but i dont really trust them ether when i first got the car i had to replace the oil O ring and some power steering lines and it cost me just a little under 800 for three parts that cost under 40 buck.

Hey, I have had to replace those power steering parts before, not worth that much at a shop, but they are a real pain!!! What about finding a different motor to swap in? May be the cheapest way, may not though.

I have a good 3.4 Engine, but its out of a 2002 Olds Alero. I don't think it will fit. I would go with s used engine, check ebay.

Before you go too far, check to see if the head is cracked - these motors were famous for it.

Where is the motor located? Maybe we could help ya out with transporting. I'm sure most of us have trucks.

Take every thing to a machine shop and have in machined and balanced. If you just take it apart and through some new parts in it, it'll just blow again. Talk to a machine shop first deff.
What's your problem? RUFWM?

$5 says you broke the timing belt and put a valve through a piston. Those engines were so prone to problems it's pathetic. IMO, it's not even worth trying to replace it, because it will probably do it again. When I bought my Grand Prix, I made sure I had the 3.1 just so I didn't have to worry about that.

More likely belt a valve. If that's the case, Send the heads to a shop or get a different set. Not to big a deal. (time in right though )

Either way, not a fun or cheap repair.
There is a reason you don't find any 3.4s in junk yards, they're all broken. You find so many 3.1s because they were all very reliable engines.
