I think you have to go to the DMV with the reg # off it, and they will tell you who the sled is registered to. If it does not have current registration you may need the VIN #.

The bill of sale needs to be from the person who had it registered it last. DMV dosnt care about the guy that owned it before you if he didnt even register it. As a matter of fact dont even tell them about the guy you bought it from, tell them you bought it from the person who had it registered last. I went through that here in NY when I bought a truck from a guy who never had it registered. I told DMV and they made a huge stink about the guy avoiding sales tax. So I just grabbed all my papers and turned around and left. I made up a bill of sale myself and went to a different DMV and didnt tell them "EXACTLY WHO" I bought it from and different have a problem. I had the previous owners name though, not top mention the title.

Anyone know if CarFax gives the name of previous owmer, do they do Sleds?

Good Luck.

i know someone on here can tell me whos name the sled is in by the numbers and letters on the side on the hood.

i just called the DMV and they told me the sled hasnt been registered since 2002. but he hooked me up and put on the screen that i can transfer it in my name. he told me to wait til after July 1st so i dont lose a year on the trail sticker. so i think im set to go. Thanks everyone for the help.

In Minnesota you used to be able to take a vehicles VIN# to the state and for a small fee you could do a title search. Did one about 12-13 years ago for a motorcycle and cost was less the $10.

Another idea. did you ahave any good connections at a dealership of some type. All dealers have title clerks that have access to state databases.

Freak, you updated you last post as I was typing this one.

It's all about the ride to get there, the destination doesn't matter!
