I do not P2P.
Somehow I got something on my computer. It pops up saying I have a virus and it wants to scan my PC. It comes from the task bar in windows format! But smart me I googled it first and see that it is spyware itself and a total scam. It is called System scanner 2009 or spyware scanner 2009.. something like that. Anyways I cannot get rid of it with traditional methods. I was even in the registry.
What is the lastest and greatest in spyware scanners/removers? I am also getting crap pop ups every 1 min.
Ad-aware did not work.
The ONLY thing I have downloaded has been stuff from cnet or download.com to convert some files. My girlfriends work was in trouble yesterday because I guess everyone that went to people.com yesterday got a virus from that website.

I fixed a computer awhile back that had that same problem. I cannot remember exactly how i got rid of it but i used two programs. One of them being Smitfraud or something like that.
I will look on my other machine because i think i still have the programs on it.
If you have a bunch of crap in it and its not running right you could get an OS disk and run the recovery console. You wont lose any files, but will lose all updates.

Problem gone. Seems malwarebytes fixed it.
I am going to back up everything and reinstall my entire operating system and hard drive anyways.
That is after dell comes and works on my POS laptop for the 10th time.

Everything working ok? There has to be a new virus out there, I'm not sure where I got it, the only sites i've visited has been SF, Facebook, Startribune, Youtube and Urbandictionary. I just got it on my laptop tonight and on my desktop last week. I keep having these windows pop up called "Make money on google" and junk like that, my internet slowed down considerably, and overall computer performance just slowed way down. Scanned the computer completely with Avast nothing showed up and haven't done anything else yet.. Anyone else having the problem. Chat doesnt work on Facebook either.

Gentlemen.. Do your windows updates, keep at least 2 anti-malware programs on your pc, and up to date, because there is no one malware remover that gets everything.. And do not rely on windows own firewall if your computer is connected straight to the internet instead of being behind a router. (or, if you travel with a laptop)
Spybot S&D and AVG are a pretty good combo.. Spybot is a killer of malware but misses a few things. AVG will usually pick up the rest, and both are free for life with free updates. AVG also has a firewall, but I haven't tried it.. Instead I use Comodo firewall, it's very robust and also free for life. (Comodo also has a anti-virus but I haven't tried it)
Cleaning that anti-virus-2009 off windows XP is easy with spybot (spybot is small enough that I keep it right on my thumbdrive for cleaning peeps pc's with), but I've had issues with getting it(a-v-2009) off of Vista.

Matt, you said malwarebytes fixed the problem? Did you download it off the link I gave you? See, SF won't even load on my laptop, and when I go to the site it won't download it, it just sits and loads and loads and loads.. I can't get it off filehippo or anywhere it does the same thing. Hm.

Grab spybot search and destroy, it'll get rid of it as well.

^^I would suggest using a couple, one you think works and another one to check to see if you got it off. Then scan again with the first one to check if it didnt anything.

the reason an anti-virus does not pick it up is because it is a NEW VIRUS.....VS uses it alot....its called PHP CODE.....like someone else said...you must use 4 programs at the very least to be safe....all can be had on FILEHIPPO as i always suggest....all are free
AVAST HOME EDITION
SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY
AD-AWARE 2009
CCLEANER
turn ON windows firewall
MALWAREBYTES for extra protection
unfortunately if you run ED NORTON or PCCILLIN or MAC AFFEE or AVG or....they will not see it
AVAST must be registered and the key entered before THE ROBOT can repair the machine automatically overnight....almost all do not register it....it won't work properly sorry to say....put in CHEST for ROBOT to fix
heres the code and what it looks like to check this web site and you puters....PHP is undetectable for now to almost all securities EXCEPT those listed......google an others sites are slowly catching it.....be careful for now.....logging into beloved web sites that use the PHP CODE for DATA MINING OF PERSONAL INFO IS SEVERLY HAZARDOUS TO THE PUTERS HEALTH RIGHT NOW.....and your wallet maybe as well...companies like VS are all starting to use this as long as VS is getting away with it as well....let me know.....i know how to fix it...LATER

2 anit-malware programs on the same computer? That seems odd. Pick one and stick with it. Otherwise you risk one saying the other is "suspect." Everyone has their own opinions about all this, I can only speak from my own experience.
Two programs that should be on every computer...
1- Any virus detecting program you choose. But the key is keeping it updated religiously.
2 - Windows Defender. Sure, ad-aware and malwarebyte and others are good, but Defender will do the job just fine. Again make sure it's given full rights to keep itself updated.
Windows firewall isn't really all the hype in fact a firewall isn't "required" on any comouter unless you make a living as a hacker. I used to live and die with firewalls, but I've been running without one for about a year now...no major problems.
And one program that is very invasive and tricky to use that will rid 99.99% of all issues with a computer is Hijackthis. The downside of this program is it will not differentiate between some programs that you might need and those that are bad. Famous for canning some printer drivers you might need, but those can easily be reinstalled. I personally swear by this program to fix things. But it's use should be cautioned...know what you'regetting rid of before you pull the trigger or plan to have original CD's handy to reinstall some programs.
Gald things are back to normal ACM.

I would like to hear more about VS using this practice!
Those bastards now own/run one of the motorcycle sites I use. I got the problem as soon as I started using that website for this summer season
go to FS and look for my posts about it......its just too much ta type...and they have bought almost all motorsports web sites.....use the securities i suggest and you will be safe and NOT NEED HIJACKTHIS....these securities stop it BEFORE it gets in....the other securities go .....oops....we got a virus to clean out.....forgetaboutit....and unlike ^^^^^^ above post....its a common falisy from days of old about too many virus protections slowing down yer puter and messing with each other....that was like WINDOWS 95 ERA....there reason you NOW WANT THESE 4 is that each one sees what the other cannot
AVAST = stops any virus BEFORE you let it in....not afterwards....and the ROBOT resets it to default settings if anthing changed it without yer knowledege
SPYBOT = IMMUNIZE works with FIREFOX and IE to block 180,000 known viruses like VONDO or CONFLICKER WORM, etc....and fixes it for you
AD-AWARE 2009 get rid of the TRACKING COOKIES that programs use to send yer info back to a web site that you visited.....UPON RESTART you puter emails all those companies next day.....thats why it gets so slow
CCLEANER is an all in one that is better than IE or any browser dumping cookies or TEMP FILES....and it resets the REGISTRY KEYS and its THE ONLY PROGRAM that will remove itself....under TOOL....it sees all programs downloaded, even the hidden ones that normally are hard to find....so it is usefull to see whats in you machine without you knowledge
i have put this combo on over 1000+ puters and never had anyone come back once they did.....but i have recieved many accolades and have watched AVAST's popularity grow over the years as more and more discover it
it was put out to all home users for free by the banking industry so that viruses stop being passed on to businesses from idiots.....noone ever goes to AVAST's site to read what its about.....they always just yap and post without knowing anything or looking anything up....do a search on VS or PHP CODE and you will find out the new spamming and data mining technics that hackers are using now
plus when the securities say the other is no good....its a lie.....just say CONTINUE or I KNOW...they don't conflict in reality.....they all want to be THE ONLY ONE SO YOU SEND MONEY TO THEM....all PIERRELOGIC has to do is scan with SPYBOT and he shall see that he's been had for a long time probably....if he used CCLEANER his machine would be about 1 Gb more space....but i doubt hell try it and or post results here....not gettin on ya PIERRELOGIC....but i have heard yer tune so many times its pathetic.....one dude that holds the record swore he wasn't infected....SPYBOT found 6000 and AD-AWARE found 9000....he's been a happy customer now for 2 years with the same puter....before that he always bought every 6 months when they died
PEACE OUT MATT... beware VS FORUMS

not trying to discredit you or your puter knowledge.....what i am trying to do is point out there is a new more efficient way now....the thing about 2 anti virus programs does not affect XP or VISTA.....that was old school when the RAM and PROCESSORS could not handle it.....now viruses are so good that you now need 4 AT A MINIMUM.....my CAPS and DOTS are for search engines so my peeps can find it faster wherever they are....its not always meant for the reader.....maybe you should try CCLEANER.....i seriuosly think you will like it....and.....you can always uninstall it....look under TOOLS in it and you will see it can see more programs than ADD/REMOVE can without unhiding folders....it just might open up 1Gb even though you think you machine is spotless....i, like you, had to give it a try once just to see.....it worked....that was 4 years ago or more...its been keeping my 2002 XP working better than a new one all these years.....those 4

Your caps and dots are for search engines so "your peeps" can find it faster.
Right, well when you joined this site you agreed to type in proper sentences with proper english. Having a billion periods and CAPITAL LETTERS is not proper. Many people are tired of it and you don't seem like you are going to quit it, so you have earned yourself a warning.
Please type properly from this point forward.
Thank you.
