My LG Chocolate flip is on it's way out, and it's about time to replace it. I'm wondering what would you guys recommend? I liked my LG Chocolate good enough, has done pretty well. Here's what I'm looking for in a phone:
-Something small, a flip phone only, unless it's a touch phone like an Iphone.
-Decent camera
-MP3 player
-FM transmitter so I can use the MP3 in my car
-Has to be fairly tough, my old LG was pretty good, have dropped it count less times and no problems from that. Has gotten wet, and still works. So need something pretty tough.
I don't have any use for plans, so it will be a pay and talk phone, or a prepaid what ever you guys call them.So the phone price it self can't be to high, as I will have to buy the phone outright. What do you have for recommendations?
Thanks.

Well for starters the Iphone is way out of range for what your looking for. You have to have an unlimited plan for those.

I did a major flop about a month ago.
I decided to go "technology".
I bought an HTC Touch Diamond phone, running Windows Mobile, touch screen, bluetooth, wi-fi, 3.2 mp camera and about a billion other features. Life is great, right?
Wrong.
I had it for two weeks. Took it back. What people need MSN messenger, the internet, email, word processors, spreadsheet programs, youtube and other crap on a phone for is beyond me. I had it. The little bit I did use it, I was not impressed. Web pages don't fit right and are hard to navigate, typing on a touchscreen flat out sucks since you can't feel buttons. The screen gets smudged with clean hands, nevermind the fact my hands are constantly dirty since I'm either tinkering on farm equipment or in a field. Trying to text while doing something else is near impossible since you have to stare at the screen to see what "buttons" you are pressing.
So screw technology. Oh yeah and the battery life was like 8 hours. LAME.
I brought it back and luckily there was a 30 day "trial" limit. They took that piece of crap back and I got a real phone.
It's a Sanyo SCP-7050
I think it's probably an "outdated" phone but I don't care. It's military grade. No camera. No nothing. Very basic web browser that I can use to check the weather. Good enough. I can send text messages and I can make phone calls. Perfect! Plus the battery lasts at least 2 days before even dropping one bar and at least 3 or 4 before the next one falls off and I decide to charge it. Last thing is in the area I live, the cell service sucks. The HTC I couldn't even dream about using it in my house. My Sanyo, I can be in my living room on the couch and have a full conversation without a dropped call. It's a glorious device and I recommend it to everyone.
"Smartphones" are stupid and un-necessary.
Every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. That means every day you see me, that's the worst day of my life.

Yeah I won't be buying an I phone. I only used it as an example. I know Bell has one too, not sure who makes it, but you can use it on Pay and Talk. It's not as nice as an I phone, but pretty cool non the less. :)
Polaris-Man, yeah I know what you mean. But I use the internet on my phone a LOT. Facebook, weather, google, what ever. I have blue tooth on mine right now, haven't ever used it though, so don't really need that. But a lot of those things you mentioned I would love. I guess I'm still a young punk, we tend to like the fancy stuff. :) lol But I yes, about the touch, I know what you mean, if you can't feel the buttons, it's almost impossible to know what your doing, with out looking at it all the time. Right now I can text and look someone in the eye, with a touch, I don't think you ever could. I'm pretty set on another flip, but it just has to be pretty fancy. haha Any other thoughts?

mackinsaw Thinks it's mighty convient for the neighbor to wait untill there's snow on the ground and to ask me if I would do him a massive favour and cut his firewood for the winter for money as he is incapable. Dang I got some work cut out for the next few days.

I personally LOVE my Blackberry Pearl. I thougt the open keys would be a pain but I love it now. But if your really set on a flip phone I'd take a look at those flip Pearls.

I would suggest to just go on the websites of cell phone companies like bell.com or rogers.com ect.. to get a raugh look at what they have as options then make a desision from there.

Quote originally posted by Polaris-Man "Smartphones" are stupid and un-necessary. For you, perhaps. For me and millions of others, no. If they aren't for you, they aren't for you. Use what you want to use but don't go bashing smartphones in general.

I love my Samsung Instinct, I had a hard time with the keys at first, but now I love it. The only thing I dont like is how fast the screen gets dirty, especially with me being a mechanic, it gets really bad really fast.

smartphones are going to be main steam in like 1-2 the other phones are going to be phased out and a smartphone will be cheaper for you believe it or not. Me and the wife were paying like 120 for are phone plain and as soon as we went the the smart phones are bill has been 50 bucks awesome right. we have the divil and we like them small and they are touch screen and the hold a beating, the wife dropped hers in the toilet and all we did was pull the battery out for awhile and nothing went wrong with it.
get up boy cause u catching one in the FACE

I agree smart phones rule. And one is in my future, but I'm not sure yet what. Can a guy even use a black berry on pay and talk? I don't want the flip one, I have heard it's junk. Lots of problems with the first year model. I'm not set on a flip phone, it's just that to me it seems like it would be tougher that an open one, like a pearl lets say, the buttons are out there and open to what ever. Maybe it's not a problem, I have never had an open phone. I'll keep looking I guess, see what I can find.

software keyboards are tricky to type on until you get used to them. for me the hardware keyboard makes typing alot easier. i love my smart phone but im a bit more of a techie, and working 16 hours you need to check email, ebay and sf.com of course a few times lol. all i know is the touch pro 2 is mine as soon as its out for sprint or who ever has it after august.
there is so much cool crap software wise for them its kinda amazing and fun.
