looking to buy a 98 z440 sled is in great shape. But has hole in one piston. selling for 400 bucks. Is this a good deal and how are those sleds? Looking for a sled for my 11yo son for next year.

it would be a great sled if you can find a piston for it. i was going to buy one but i got my 600 instead

empty a bag of skittles in the toilet and flush it;s like watching a 5 second nascar race

Is it twin carbed or single? The single carbed Z440 was pretty much a jazzed up Jag, still a good, bulletproof motor, but the second carb really woke up that sled. I had a buddy with a twin carbed Z440 when I was primarily riding my '97 Jag, and he could have his way with me any time he wanted. Another friend had a single carbed Z 440 and he and I were about even. Those cat 440s just won't die, I'm actually picking up an '89 Jag AFS today. They have some power, but aren't going to rip your son's arms off. I started on a '93 Jag 440 in '95 when I was 8...so I'm sure your son can handle a little bit more power at 11. go for it, you'll like it!

yes it is a twin carb. sucks cuz i just traded my 88 jag 440 for my 92 indy 500. that jag 440 only had about 2500 miles on it. would have been i good motor swap. was looking for a newer sled with blown motor for it for awhile and just gave up. Now look lol. only thing wrong with it other than the piston is the windshield. But may have to take it off anyways so my son can see over it. Yes he can handle it just fine. Rode my xcf 440 twin carb and the 88 jag 440 just fine.

put pics of it on my page

Looks like a pretty clean sled...good buy! Do you know why the one piston melted down? I haven't ever had problems with those lil 440 fanners melting pistons...maybe some gunk in the carb or cracked intake boot?

yes just like my brother in laws ext 550 a cracked boot between the carb and motor. After that happened to him i looked at all my sleds for it. Seems like cats are the ones that have the problem with it. My 92 indy still looks great.

still not sure what is up with the bolts in the track. maybe it was studed and they just wanted to fill the holes. i've never seen studs wear down like that if thats what happened.

what would be faster you think? The z440 or a polaris 440. my wife has a xcf 440 and it's a 98 twin carb. if the cat would be faster then the son will take the xcf over and wife will get the cat.

I'd say that they're probably pretty close...depending on studding an clutching.
