im currently working on my 76 Polaris Electra trying to get the brakes unlocked. one thing i need to do is to take off the clutch pulley thing. now im not sure what you call it, but its the larger pulley and it has a big spring mechanism on the back. I wanted to make sure that if i loosen the bolt on the spring mechanism, that the spring isn't going to blow up in my face. in other words, is that spring under pressure? thanks a lot,
-jaime

yes it is under pressure. but just watch it it may fly out. on my 98 440 i can take it off and it just pops out a lil. nothing to hurt you. not sure on that year but newer ones have a hole with plug on side to get to the bolt.

You mean the secondary clutch? Which is the one not bolted to the engine. If so you can take the middle bolt out holding it on and it should just slide off.

holding the mechanism on? ok, but even if i do slip, is the spring going to damage me or the machine?

Do you have a picture of it? Unless you are taking the clutch itself apart the spring will not come out,the bolt that holds the clutch to the shaft is not what holds the clutch togather.
