i hate those smart cars. and all cars like it. i don't mind the really good gas mileage, or if there electric, those don't effect me because i wont ever be buying one. but the thing that does effect me is pain that i have to induce to look at them. those are the ugliest cars on the planet. so rounded off, and circle shaped. is there a reason the make these cars look like that? they just look why to Asian to me. [not trying to be racist, just the kind of cars they drive there.]

I dont like small cars at all. I wouldnt mind if my truck got over 7mpg but I would never go to something like a smart car. And alot of the cars look the same between differant auto makers. I love passing smart cars.

what happened to getting good gas mileage and looking good while doing it? Why not something like an old Camaro with 40mpg? that would be the greatest thing ever. And go fast too, I want to get good gas mileage and be able to do 100. The smart car is innovative but ugly, and because of the way it looks I won't buy one.

I have driven one.

MPG was the the same as my cavalier. It cost more than my cavalier (17,500), and the transmission was a JOKE, took seconds to shift between gears. Anyone who buys this is only buying it because it is small and they can't park a normal car.

Prius and Smart Car are advertising gems. Both cost a ton more than a normal car.. and they continue to sell because people assume they are better.

Cheapest prius is about 22,500.. EPA site says 41 mpg. New cobalt, 12,000 and has a ton more power and gets 36 mpg. Twice as much money to get 5 more mpg? Total waste to buy the prius.

I dread the day we get called to a Kenworth vs Smart car accident with the fire department.

That's just not going to be pleasant.

A big WTF is that!!!! I've never seen that one before. WOW, that's nasty!!!!!! I'd walk or ride a bike before driving one of those.....unless I could drive it off a cliff and watch it bounce off the canyon walls on the way down...that'd be cool!!!

Don't worry about it, the guy driving the kenworth wont even feel it and keep going. Then he'll stop for the night and see that his grill is cracked and wonder what kind of bird he hit. And I agree, the Fusion is the best looking hybrid so far.

Yeah, everybody is all about these efficient no emissions ugly expensive cars. But, look overseas and right here and there are much better solutions. I read a good article in Popular Mechanics last fall. It was a Prius vs. a VW Jetta TDI. In the city the Prius got better fuel economy, but on the Highway the Jetta got better. They even said they would much rather have the Jetta. They said it was more powerful, rode nicer, looked a lot nicer, and just a much better car. Just a little turbo diesel motor in a car. My dads friend is marrying a girl from England, and he has spent some time over there. He said a lot of the cars are diesels, and get great fuel economy. He even have diesel sport cars. We could have these very efficient, reliable, nice cars here if we cut the EPA out because they are stopping them from coming here. My sister-in-law has a Jeep Liberty CRD. It gets like 28 mpgs on the highway and mid 20s in the city, while the gas version gets like 20 tops. But the EPA killed it also. Look at the new diesel trucks. They are much cleaner, but not nearly as good economy as the older trucks because of emissions. If we cut the EPA out of the equation, we could have be driving diesel cars, trucks, and SUVs that get great fuel economy, are powerful, and will run forever. But we have to have these crappy little electric things and hybrids. I personally think that diesel is the way to go, not hybrids or plug in vehicles.

I haven't heard anything about any Smart vs. anything larger accidents. I wouldn't be caught in one, dead or alive. My father and I saw one in Italy when I was there in '01, and it made sense to have them there because of the small spaces and tight streets they drive on.

To bring them over here is ridiculous. No need for them, but the American public is stupid. They see a marketing gimmick and jump on it like fat kids on cupcakes.

There's a guy at my gym that has one with racing stripes. I asked him if they made it faster, and he just looked at me like he had no clue what I was talking about. Idiot.

As said before, the Smart and the Prius are the two largest marketing gems in the country. I've seen a bunch of posts on forums like "I don't get why, but my Prius gets the same mileage as my last car! Shouldn't it get better???"

Oh well. We just have to avoid them or run over them.

And I highly doubt this will ever be built. No protection in a side crash, looks like a golf cart. They test drive a lot of cars in pre-production that never get built. Dodge had a little screamer called the Demon that was a pre-production car and people begged them to build it. The prototype was a 95% car, and they couldn't pull it off...

That thing won't even see an assembly line floor.

Oh. And your picture of the Fusion is of a 2009. This is the 2010:

The Peapod is a "neighborhood" vehicle. It's a glorified golf cart. They are, however, road legal in 40 states or something stupid. Top speed of 25mph and a 30 mile range.

Sounds like fun. Another flop for Chrysler and another reason to get those idiots at Cerebrus out of the front offices.

Why waste money on a vehicle that won't be mass production and won't sell at all in a poor economy??

In diesel power a guy did that. He put a modded Duramax into a Mustang that was built for drag racing. Its street legal, gets 33 or so mpgs, makes gobs of power, and is pretty fast. But because of the EPA its hard to make them meet the regulations. Otherwise we would have more diesel cars. There will be more diesel cars available in the future though, it just takes time and money to make them legal here. The main problem is with California's laws. A lot of cars can't meet their regulations so they aren't sold here. But you can get a Cherokee diesel i believe, and soon we will be able to get half ton diesel trucks.
