For my whole life I have been a resident of NY. The gun laws in NY are pretty much impossible for handguns so I never really got involved with it. I would always just shoot my dads guns out behind the house. I have always hunted but I never thought of hunting and shotguns to be a big deal with gun control since there really wasnt any restrictions on them. But this past year I have switched my residency to PA where it seems like gun heaven! lol. Now this is all new to me. I finally had the opportunity to buy a handgun and I did. And now that I did I feel like I find myself reading more and searching more on Second Amendment issues and so forth. I never realized certain parties opinions or beliefs in gun control because I was never really effected by it. Pretty much for last 2 or 3 months I have been obsessed with it. The PA government and Governor Rendell are pushing for some stricter laws some I agree with and some just make no sense to me at all. It just seems like every time a cop gets shot the government says we need to do this or do that... I dont want to post too much because I am still in the learning process of being PRO-guns but I want to know what people on here think about it.
In PA, you can buy a gun with a drivers license and a clean background. It is not hard to get a carry permit either.

NY gun laws suck.. plain and simple. No way could I ever get a concealed carry (at least that is what they told me). They said nobody gets one, dont' try.

The second amendment is important to me and should be important to all Americans and outdoor enthusiasts. We all need to petition our law makers to uphold our rights to own and use firarms.

I love the second amendment. It provides gun owners with some fighting power. But personally I believe that that part of the constitution is kinda old. It says for "a well regualted militia". Our guns are not what is being used in the army. They have their own haha. But I still believe it is important for us to own guns, to protect ourselves. Here in Michigan it is an open carry state. At 18 years old you can carry a handgun as long as it is in PLAIN view. As soon as it is hidden you need a CPL/CCW, which you cant get til 21. There is no real background check to get one, and the only person who interviews you is the county clerk, who ultimately decides whether you get it or not. I believe earlier in this forum I was talking about a guy who came to the gun range I work at. He could hardly walk or talk, but he was getting his training for his CCW. Us (the gun range) could not refuse him the permit, only the county clerk can be the one to say "You are unfit to conceal carry a gun." I believe the laws are to loose here, guns should be allowed, but only for those that have the mental capacity to carry a deadly machine. Recently a woman went into a gun range with her son, they rented 2 pistols, and a lane for an hour. She let him shoot first, while he was shooting, she put the gun she rented to the back of his head and... well you know. She then put the gun in her own mouth and took her own life. She left a suicide note at home saying that she wanted to make sure her son went to heaven before she went to hell. It's just sad to see stuff like that, people like that should not touch a gun. Thats why in some ways laws need to be stricter.
But as for this law that all ammo is gonna have a serial number on it, so they know immeadiately which gun discharged it is absolutely rediculous. That will cause the price of ammo, which is already in SERIOUS short supply to nearly quadruple.
Speaking of ammo shortage, I went to cabelas the other day, looked at handguns and such, I asked where all there 9mm ammo was, they told me they were 100% out. A national chain for outdoor supplies was out of ammo. The only outdoor store in the US that is bigger is BPS, and they were out of 9mm ammo. Thats scary! From what I heard, something happened with primers, ammo makers cannot produce primers or something like that. I dont really know that's just what I heard from a guy I work with at the range, he's probably just bull sh*tin with me.

People are always saying that the guns kill other people...not true, it's the people that kill others, the guns just make it easier!! In Wausau, you can carry a weapon downtown and it's legal,,,as long as it's NOT CONCEALED. They are working on changing that now..

^After the UK banned guns, use of other weapons in crime actually went up. Did crime go down? Nope. Only thing that changed was that the people who had guns would've robbed the convenience store and ran off with the money, many times without discharging their gun. Now the robber just stabs the attendant and takes the money anyway. I'd say that's a digression...

Yeah I heard about Vermont. PA is an open carry state also but I dont recommend it when you can get a CCW permit fairly easy. I have heard too many problems with people calling the cops saying someone is walking around with a gun. And I think it is standard protocol for the cops to respond and disarm you at gun point to make sure you are legal. I wouldnt chance it. I wouldnt want anyone to know I was carrying anyways.

Gun control is a great idea.
The problem is trying to get criminals to register their
guns before they use them.
You cannot legislate to take weapons out of the hands of
criminals.
Canada spent millions instituting gun control legislation
that was very painful.

I dont believe in gun control. The criminals are already not following the law, so how would it make it any different? I live near Dayton so im always hearing about people getting shot and all kinds of crap. And i bet all of those guns are illegal also. My dad has his CCW license so he can finally carry his gun legally. He takes a gun with him almost everywhere he goes, and always has. My mom was kidnapped at gun point from the Dayton mall when she was a teenager, but jumped out of the car while the cops were chasing the guy. When my parents were dating they also saw a woman get murdered at the mall, but they were helpless. Some punk tried stealing her purse and her car, and ended up just shooting her. My dad said that he wants to be prepared in those situations so he can help out. Hed rather be safe then sorry.
But what really pissed me off, and almost made my dad go to school board and complain was one day a lunch lady walked up to me while i was eating lunch. She told me to step out in the hall, so i did. She asked if our vice principal had talked to me already about my shirt, and i said no. She said that i either needed to put on something over top of it, change it, or flip it inside-out. She didnt say i was in trouble or anything so i just flipped it inside out and didnt argue. The problem with my shirt is, its kinda funny, it says Gun Control on the top with a big circle target under it. On both sides it has revolvers that are just colored in red. On the bottom it says, means hitting your target. She said that its against school policy because it has weapons and encourages violence. One kid in my class got in trouble for having a belt buckle with a confederate flag and shotgun on it. If i wouldve gotten in trouble, like a detention or something i wouldve said no and probably just walked back to my seat. I know my dad, who is a life time member of the NRA and i will be one also, wouldve went to one of the school board meetings and put up a fight. Im going to wait a while and wear it again because im expressing my opinion, and i want to find a NRA shirt that says support the second amendment and has a gun on it. It doesn't make sense that i cant wear a shirt that is pro-gun, but kids can wear there pants around their knees because they think they are in a gang. Thats also against school policy and its very noticeable. But i guess im and encouraging violence or something. Weve also tried to get a school trapshooting team set up, but they refused because they have a no weapons policy. But in the summer i shoot a lot and go to competitions because its enjoyable. I will always own guns, and always shoot.

i believe we should sill be alowed to have guns. If we arent alowed to have guns. that means no hunting, witch will lead to over populated animals and then they will start to raid the citys and homes. and it will lead to a giant mess. its the damn tree hugers out there that are going to take down the guns for Hunting. Theres alot of people out there that fallow the laws about guns and are doing ever thing they can to save them. but then theres alot of other people with guns that violate it and they are going to be the once that get them taken away for every one. and if they take the guns away the gangs and robbers are just going to find other ways that a gun. most the time they dont shoot them, just to scare them.
i support the 2nd amendment and love to shoot my guns.

When guns are banned or controlled, only the criminals will have guns. Do you think that gangs and drug cartels give a sh*t whether guns are legal or not? The second amendment was brilliant foresight by our founding fathers. It allows common, law abiding citizens the right to protect themselves from criminals (and a government that oversteps its boundaries.)

Good point, BUT now the criminals can sue you if you shoot them IN YOUR HOUSE or get injured IN YOUR HOUSE when robbing YOUR HOUSE!!!!!!!! How much B.S. is that? Like stated before it's all the do-gooders ruining it for the law-abiding citizens, saying that we are no better than the criminals because we have guns and use them. Only difference is WE USE OUR HEADS!!!!

I get sick of everytime there is a shooting the famous lines are, we need stronger gun laws. B.S I'd like to see what percentage of shootings are actual done by registered gun owners, going postal. News flash law makers and media, it's the **** heads on the streets that have never been registered or their guns.

this is only true depending on what state you live in and is one of the biggest issues in gun control issues. It's called "castle doctrine" which in a short definition gives a home owner or whoever to use deadly force during a home intrusion.

Michigan just passed a law that says that "If you clearly explain you do not want them on your property and your prepared to use lethal force" you can shoot a violent inturder on your property. those aren't exact words from it but its something along those lines.
