Well my last time riding was like 4-5 weeks ago i was crusing down the trail around 40-50 trying to catch up to my group just at the begining of the ride and all the sudden my engine just turned off . So i didn't think of too much because it was running perfect. I went to try to pull her over and i couldn't even bug it so i took off the spark plugs and saw that they where pure white. I knew my engine seized right there.. The weird thing is that 40 minutes before i checked the plugs and they hwhere golden brown. I got the sled into the shop pulled off the top ended and the left piston hit the exhaust port and the pistons olmost had a whole through the top. i will post pictures up later..

Yikes! Man that sucks, good thing it was the end of the season. I bet you cracked a carb boot or a bad crank seal or something like that. Very weird that it was fine earlier in the day then blew up down the trail.

what kind of sled? look at the rubber boot between the carbs and the motor. I bet at least one of them has a crack in it.

the type of sled is a 1999 powder special 700. THe boots are in perfect condition from what i see from the top i haven't checked the bottom or the gasket/seal inbetween the motor and the boot.

hole in top of piston usually means detonation, which caused the hot spot...

Thats what i ended up finding on a few sites and book about the whole in the piston and it said either bad gas or the timing was off. There is olmost a hole in the piston but its not a hole

thats so true... Plus it allows me to put in the set of boyesen 2 stage reeds that i bought for it. Instead of being able to access the reed cage from the outside of the block you have to take off the cylinders to get to the reed cages.Such a pain for such a small modification. Well i officially have all the parts now and hopefully i can get it together by this weekend.

Both plugs were white? If both were white I would think a crank seal failed, if just one side was white it could have been a number of things. U didnt lean out because of bad gas, u leaned out because of a fuel mixture problem. That really sucks dude.
mdmaniac- Detonation almost always damages the top edges of the pistons and the ring lands, almost never the center of the piston.

dude the same exact thing happend to me on the river near my house. the only diffeerence is that mine didnt seize up like what happened to you. it was running great and then it just shut off. i melted holes in both the pistons. i think my reason was that the carbs were ajusted wrong and i was running too lean. make sure you check that out after you rebuild it.
