Has anyone had experience recording old LP's to their computer? My wife saw a record player that hooks into the computer that allows you to get your LP's into digital format. I have a ton of older albums that I would like to get on my MP3.

Any suggestions, comments or complaints?

You can do it that way if you have a good computer that is fast enough to handle that kind of recording. Get a recording software program. You can cheap software at best buy or walmart but if you want better go to a music store like Sam Ash or Guitar Center.

Don't buy that, those things are usually junk, best way is to have a decent PC/Laptop with enough memory, good sound card, a decent phono pre-amp, and good recording software.

I was reading sooo many articles online on how to do this that I have a headache!!

There are some many software programs. Audacity has been mentioned many times.

I will have to find a good phonograph as my old one went to the graveyard more than few years ago and a preamp. The wife traded most of my old stuff for an all in one receiver-cd player. Dang women!

Just can't see paying a buck for a song I already have. And it would be nice to hear a small pop or hiss every now and again.

Thread moved from General.

I have a thing I bought that hooks to the USB on your PC. You plug in anything that has a RCA video/audio cable to it (like a video camera or DVD player). It puts the image and sound on to your laptop for you to record and do what you want with. I will get details on it later tonight.
