Talked to the brother in law this weekend. Corn is up about 6" and the wheat and beets will be sprayed either this week or next week, depending on how fast the beets get to the 4 leaf stage.

I need big jugs on my sled, cuz my girl doesn't.

Awesome, just got 4 to 5 inches of rain. Water everywhere. After our huge struggle to get the crop in, it's all gonna drown now.

What a lousy year. Farming is stupid.

well there is always crop insureance. thought not being a farmer im not sure how that works or what kinda coverage you get. welcome to my year. So far due to the ****ty start to the construction season mostly due to bad weather, we are already down $500,000 from last year and it looks to only get worse. But just got to hope for the best right.

cheers

Well, it's not the end of the world and we'll probably just lose the low spots we always lose anyway. Everything is so late we just have to hope for a very long, warm fall.

Everything is looking pretty good here, a friend of mine was combining peas already yesterday. My winter wheat should go next week, the heads are 4" long on some of those suckers

My hard wheat is not so nice looking though, alot of it in our area got wheat streak mosak disease. Some of it will still be alright, the rest will be turned to insurance.

Our stuff is all super late. Sprayed the last field of wheat with folicur this morning. Still have some fungicide to spray on the canola yet. Looks like the combines will be sitting in the yard throughout august this year...

Beans and corn aren't very good here in western MN. Corn is maybe 5' in good places and just starting to tassle, one field I saw was about 6" tall throughout the whole field. It's a good 2-3 weeks behind. Beans are a foot tall in good places. A lot of the fields are yellow with root rot. Wheat and sugar beets are looking pretty good.

Our wheat is looking good, if only it would turn now... could be august 20th before its ready. Beet rows finally closed a week and a half ago, a lot of them are radish sized now, Crystal Sugar is talking about a pre pile harvest beginning august 20th also. What are they gonna do with 10 ton beets? Could use a little rain up here too, it's been very dry for the last month or so.

I hope I die like my grandpa did - quietly in his sleep... not like the rest of the people in the car.

One of the best years here in a long time. Many people about 20 miles north of us got hammered with hail and lost it all. We got lucky and missed the nasty stuff and just got rain.

I am working in the drayton north dakota area for the next couple years. i can see why in that soil you have to get stuck once in a while to get the dirt to dry. in our soil at home if there was standing water you woulding get even close to it on foot, but if you let it sit for a couple days it will dry up. in that red river dirt it never drys up until you scratch it. does it ever stop raining here?

^We still have standing water from this spring,we do not normally get quite this much moisture.

This pic was taken after we had already seeded this part of the field, the dirt on top was dry and was even going slightly down hill. All of our stucks this year were on dry looking ground.

This was after a front wheel assist allis tried and failed to pull it out

Just talked to the brother in law. Wheat is done. That ran really good. 60-65 bushel/acre. 14.7% protien. Got a little bit of oats to combine after it dries up from the 2" of much needed rain.

That's pretty good. Our wheat is just getting a yellowish tinge to it now. It will be awhile yet.

Still sitting around waiting for things to turn. Frigid weather, clouds and rain are not helping.

Anything getting done yet? We are still sitting on our asses doing nothing. Canola is close to being cut, there's some guys around here combining. I know of a few guys who have combined canola and it's doing pretty good, buddy of mine was out today and he said the field was averaging around 55 bu/acre. Spring wheat, very little is done and what is done seems to be yielding alright, but it's wet. I know of some guys who were taking it off around 20 or 21% and drying it.

We might start cutting canola tomorrow or on the weekend. With this sudden burst of hot weather that we needed a month ago things are turning quickly. Our wheat will have to be sprayed soon too, however if it were to stay warm for an extended period of time I personally would consider swathing it. The straw just isn't gonna dry down with the short days with little heat.

Seed rep projects that if we have a normal September, which it hasnt been a normal summer yet, that the corn will still be 35% moisture Oct 1. Other then that, starting 4th cutting end of this next week, then put the baler and discbine away.

Last year at this time we had already been done harvesting for a week. Now we are only about half done, but still ahead of most. Winter wheat has dropped $1 in the last week, and they said they have a 2yr surplus of durum. Not good for future pricing.

Around here its been a very very abnormal summer. Very cool and wet. Usually everybodys yards were brown so they needed a sprinkler system, which we would install and make money. Now the yards have been green most of the summer, and we have no work. We have most of 4th cutting in at my grandpas, a few bean fields are about ready, some corn is starting to turn. Hogs are at .28 cents a pound, which for a 250 pound hog, thats only 70 bucks. Not a soul is making money on hogs this year. Crop prices are falling like a stone. You cant hardly give away hay or straw. Right now my grandpas bank barn is full, and we arent done with 4th cutting. Hes not sure what he is going to do with it since he cant sell it. Last winter he almost ran out of hay and had to buy some. This winter he probably wont be able to sell much.

Ive been at fair the past week, which shows me how much money some people will blow on livestock even though the economy is gone. One family had grand and reserve champion steer. Supposedly they spent 30k on one, maybe on both. The grand champion heifer was bought in Kentucky to show at our fair. The top hogs were probably 3-400 bucks a piece, and im sure thats low. I show up with my homegrown 3 month old heifer that wont walk at all, and 2 nice homegrown hogs, and just get blown out of the water. I guess anymore 4-H is one of those things where you got to pay to play.

Definitely a late year here in ND. We just finished up our Spring Wheat today. It ran much better than most years. We don't have our total bushels calculated yet though. We'll be moving on to Durum this week, presuming it doesn't rain...
