i have a 1999 polaris indy 500, are the stock main jets for mikuni carbs 350's? my sled does not run well on trails at lower rpms and speeds, i have cleaned the carbs, put new needles and seats in and changed the cdi box but to no avail has any of this helped, would changing the main jet to a 340 or 330 help or be too much? sry to anyone if i am asking dumb questions this is my first attempt on rebuilding this sled which was in bad shape when i started

i havent checked the compression yet on it, although it has new pistons, rings and gaskets in it.when its running at faster rpms and speeds it runs awesome, just on the low end it does this, i am in the process of getting a compression tester to see.

sounds like its running rich, try going one size down from the ones that are in it right now, if that doesnt help go another, then another. It might seem like alot of work but its better than guessing, thats how i got my sled dialed in

Black is rich, if they are soaked you are floading...I would buy some jets and slowly work it down leaner

play with your air screw next time you go out and hit the trails. before you lean out the bottom end (counterclockwise) i would actually richen it because it sounds to me like it may be a lean bog.

make sure that you have the right fuel to oil mixture. I have been working with the oil issue with my aunt's sled. Just make sure that you talk to someone at a shop that knows what they are doing and then make the right adjustments to your oil pump to make it right. This will help your sled run better. The other thing is that if you don't change the main jets on the carbs and move the needle jet clip up one slot this will lean out the mid range. The main jets only change the WOT NOT THE MID RANGE. Well I hope that your sled will run better for you.

I would say clean and rebuild your clutches put on a new belt and it will run like a champ.

If it bogs in the low end it's not your main jets. Throttle position - 0 to 1/4 idle jet and air screw adjustments; 1/4 to 3/4 needle jet (you said you have new needles); 3/4 to WFO main jets. So baseline your air screw ( I think it's lightly seated and back out 1.5 turns) and if you floats aren't sticking and your carbs are clean you should see an improvement in the low end.
On a 99 they came with 350 main jets, 45 pilot jet, 6F9-3 Jet Needle, 2.5 cutaway, .75 air screw, 1600 idle rpm +/- 200.
I jetted down to 330 mains successfully and dropped the needle one ring. No problems with temps down to 0F

thanks to everyone with your replies, i have since went down one jet size and had the air screws adjusted, also put a brand new comet 108 exp clutch on it, hopefully this will cure my issues, it does start much easier and the plugs are burning brown now, just waiting now for that first snow to give it a real test, but thanks again to all of you who replied
