Just curious about everyones opinions on their all time favorite guitarists. Mine are probably Joe Satriani and Dimebag Darrell. Personally I think these are the top two.

Jimmy Page is untouchable, however Dimebag Darrell is good as well.

It all depends on your style and what kind of music you like to listen to or play. My favorite guitarist is Slash, I grew up a big GNR fan back in the day and he was and still is about as RAW as you can get as a guitar player. I don't think he is the best but I really like him. Next in line who I think is the BEST is Stevie Ray Vaughn. The man was unbelievable. I am also a big fan of Satriani. I have seen him a few times live. I think he is amazing but it is not my style of music. I'm a Hard Rockin/Blues type.

Tom Morello. The things he can do with a guitar are amazing. There are certain Rage songs that I'm still in awe over. He makes what he does seem effortless.

Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield from Metallica. I know neither are "the best" on the planet but I like em.

Metalica turned down Les Claypool on an audition because he was to good

Heres an excerpt from "Livewire":

Livewire: You auditioned to play bass for Metallica a long time ago. James Hatfield said you didn't get the job because you were too good. Had you gotten the job how do you think Metallica's music would sound today?

Claypool: It would sound exactly the same because they would have fired me after about a month. James was being very kind when he said that on VH1. What he really thought is that I was a total freak! (laughs)

Pretty solid!

It's too bad for as much as I love music, "0" musical talent in these bones. I have a decent ear for what is good though. Open to just about everything. There are even some polka songs I think are pretty solid. I usually get a WTF look when I plug that stuff in the CD player

Steve Vai is OK. He is all fancy and stuff but I have seen him and he is nothing compared to Satriani. Steve Vai learned from Satriani as did, Kirk Hammett and a bunch of others. Vai is more of a showman on stage but that is it IMO. If you like Vai check out Satriani's stuff.

I like Willie Nelson.

Steve Vai is playing with Sammy Hager and and bass dude from Van Halen. The band is Chickenfoot. I heard a couple of tracks over the weekend and it sounded kickass.

And Let's not forget good old uncle Ted.
