The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.
-Thomas Jefferson-

Their not taking my guns.

Owning a race sled is like having a totally hot girlfriend..... All of your friends want to see it, feel it and check it out..... They all want to know what it is like to ride it, but if they only knew how much time and money it takes to keep one up, they would call you a fool!

I don't really understand the need for the micro-stamping of the spent rounds. it will just make the revolver much more likely to be used in criminal activity as it doesn't throw the cases out after each shot. If they're worried about the mass shootings well those guns are usually recovered when the criminal takes his/her own life or the cops do the dirty work for them. Sadly this is the way our government idiots think these days, when they should worry about what they can do to create jobs for the ones who need work.

As stated in the article, such legislation is not going to have much if any impact at all on criminals. It punishes the legal and law abiding citizens who own guns. It is so obvious, that one may wonder if that is not their key intent!?! Hold on to your guns.

the laws would also require all semiautomatic pistols to be capable of stamping spent ammo casings so they can be identified and matched with the firearm,

How lame!!!
And what do they think this is going to accomplish,,,,and giving up the 50's and 12's....B.S!!!
Like they are going to get all of them anyway if this passes.

The 12 gage thing is unreal. It appears to have already passed part of the process.

What do we have to do to prevent this? I am willing to travel and protest for this cause.

My parents bought me my first gun years back.. remington 870 12g. It is special to me as it was a sentimental (to me) gift as I could not afford a gun at the time and wanted to hunt very bad. My parents saved for awhile to be able to afford it, dad was working overtime and using the money for the gun.

The government thinks they are going to take that away from me?

This is not an AK47 assault rifle. This is a gun I use to put food in the fridge for cryin out loud.

Im glad i live in Ohio. I dont see them doing that here anytime soon, but its still possible. What i really want to know is how are they going to get all the guns? I know i have 3 12 gauges, well my dad owns them but im the only person who shoots them, and im not willing to give them up. Im not sure how many 12s we have, probably 20 or so. Even though my 870 is worthless because it jams after every shots, i wouldn't even think about turning it in. Its giving in, giving them what they want, and a sign of surrender. But really, i only see it as getting at the true sportsmans. We trapshoot and hunt waterfowl a lot, and all we use are 12 gauges, along with most other people. But ive never heard of many criminals using shotguns in robberies. If they wanted to stop crime they could do many other things, but they are wanting to attack the average hunter and shooter. I know my dad is a NRA life member, and he bought my brother a life membership when he turned 18 so i plan on doing the same.

Im an ATA member, future NRA life member, a DU member, and in the 4-H shooting club and i plan on being in them as long as possible. The sad thing is (hopefully not though)i may see a day when people who own guns are breaking the law and considered outlaws, so i guess ill be an outlaw. Heck, at school ive already been confronted by a lunch lady because i wore a anti-gun control shirt because it promotes violence or some crap. Im going to be sure to wear it again tomorrow and see what happens.

Is every gun in NY registered? How would they know who curently has guns? If a crimanal wants to kill someone he will be able to find a gun whether they are banned or not, there is millions upon millions of them in US. Pure stupidity.

Gun laws will never get better in NY. They have one of the 2 strictest laws in the US next to California. I never realized it until lately but I am glad that I have PA residency now. I can do a lot more things now and I have a Concealed carry permit. It is going to be hard for me to move back to NY next year. I might have to reconsider, especially if I cant hunt with a 12-guage shotgun. Give me a break.

"Oath Keepers" You need to see this Matt and maybe send them a letter or get NY gun owners to back their mission. You don't even have to own guns to realize how wrong the idea of taking our guns away is.
http://texasfred.net/archives/3814

This excerpt taken from follow up atricle in the link below;
Oath Keepers is a non-partisan association of currently serving military, reserves, National Guard, peace officers, and veterans who swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic … and meant it.
Our oath is to the Constitution, not to the politicians, and that oath will be kept. We won’t “just follow orders."

Here's a pro-gun news story I read this morning. Pretty good stuff. http://www.wsbtv.com/news/19365762/detail.html This is all the reason that guns should be accessible. Just because innocent people don't have them doesn't mean criminals won't.

Loved this article. But if you own a hand gun, you really should take a shooting course not just a safety course. Maybe that woman would not have been hit.

I can tell you from experience from my time as a cop in the military, shooting a firearm accurately while under stress ain't an easy thing to do. And that is with all our training!

Good example. Every month there are numerous articles just like this one published around the country. American Rifleman magazine publishes a synopsis each month in their "Armed Citizen" column.
