Yeh, I've been planning on joining for months now. The free year membership was enough for me to join. I believe this type of legislation is going to stir the sleeping majority in this country. This may be just what we need to get everyone united to fight for our rights. I wouldn't be surprised if NRA's membership Quadruples this year.

^ That's everywhere that sells ammo here. Fleet Farm, Scheels, Gander Mountain, etc....all out of ammo. Not cool.

I stopped in Dunhams and Gander Mountain in town last night and they both had a good stock of ammo. I had always believed in hollow points for the handguns but after seeing and discussing personal protection ammo I am going to buy a couple of boxes this weekend.
Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I would not use hollow points for anything other than plinking. The were designed to not go thru your (human) target. Personally, if I have to shot someone, I want my round to go completely thru. That way if the sum b**ch has the snot to get up and run, there will be a good blood trail to find him!!

A FMJ round may not be the best idea from a liability perspective, you don't want the round to go through the perp as it could pass through a wall and/or ricochet into an uninvolved party. I always thought the hollow point was a good idea as it did not pass through. Again, from a liability perspective it could be considered overkill. I will likely go with gold dots as that is what my local police department uses. An attorney would have a hard time arguing overkill if you shot the same round that the police would have, had they been there.

I will put nothing other than a hollow point in my gun for self defense. If I need to use it, I would rather do more damage with the HP rather than something just "passing" through and giving them the chance of running. I guarantee that you will find a nice blood trail behind a hollow-point, that's if you are terrible shot. If I need to shoot, that bastard will be found where I shot him because he ain't running nowhere!

In regards to ammo shortage -
The only thing I have read online was that a company that makes the primers had some malfunction or something and was down for awhile so certain ammo didn't have its orders filled.
Most ammo is in full stock out here.

Liability?? You shoot someone, perp or innocent, you are going to get sued by SOMEONE. Whether that amounts to anything in court-depends on the judge. That was my point about taking a shooting course. Especially one that has a shoot-don't shoot simulator.
Any hunter knows that the best blood trail is created by two holes in the target. There are too many variables to consider when shooting true hollow points. If you shoot a hot load out a big bore gun (40 cal) with hollow points at close range (10-15 ft) and hit something as insignificant as a metal zipper, your penetration drops significantly. If hollow points were so great, every police force in the world would use them. I guarantee you that they use ball, wadcutter or semi wadcutter or possibly something like the Hornady XTP round.
