im building a 1992 ford explorer as a daily driver and built for off roading also. i,ve swapped out the stock 225's for 31's already and started getting it in flat black. got to put new rockers and fenders on it. but i have a 3" body lift coming for it should be here wendnesday or thursday. just in time to install it this weekend. im building a explorer because i havent seen one lifted and none known of in our area. everyone builds cherokees and of course jeeps and trucks. so i got to be diffrent. heres a couple pics of it. ive started painting and have the 31's on it.

Nice lift, that's a good idea. I don't suggest ford, but that's too late, so just put some nice paint on it, along with some rims, and work with the exhaust and engine. I don't know if you can put lockers on that vehicle?

ya they got lockers for them. just about anything you want. once i get the lift in ill find some 33" tires and black rockcrawlers for it. engine work will be soon but exhaust ill leave stock for now its all new. and itll be a daily driver. im thinking about putting 4.56 gears in it.

ya same idea. i found a explorer web site with nothing but lifted ones. they look mean. there fairly cheap to lift. and they say there awsome trail rigs. they have the 8.8 rear end and a dana 35 front end. so there worthy of building. my next purchase will be suspension.

looks like you have a good truck to start with. juts be careful how slow you do that black, on my old truck you could tell it was done at differant times. i have the same issue with the exhaust on my truck, its real quiet and minivan like, but its all brand new so i dont want to tare it out just yet. keep us updated on your project, i enjoy watching other peoples projetcts come together.

Here's my truck, i didn't build it unfortunately, i bought it. its pretty, but it aint no street queen, been in the mud every weekend since i bought it. took it out the day i bought it, before i even got plates i headed for mud.

I wouldnt call this a daily driver but it does get used around the farm and running short distance trips. It has made a few passes at the local mud runs as well.

77 F250,429ci and skid steer tires with about 1000 miles on them. It actually rides pretty decent even at higher speeds.

Oh man. 4.56s for a DD? You shouldn't need much more than 3.93 or 4.11 for 33s, unless you're planning on going bigger?? Your RPMs will be crazy high with the 4.56 gears.

You wouldn't have been able to fit 31s that well on any of the unibody Jeeps. Plenty of room for those 33s!

Have you thought about what kind of lockers you're going with? What axles do Explorers come with stock?

if it holds up i want to put a 4" suspension lift then go to 35's. thats why i was thinking 4:56 gears. aint sure what i want for lockers but summit has complete kits for the rear. but aint been able to find anything for the front. not even gears. the front axle is a reverse dana 35 and the rear is a limited slip 8.8. ya jeeps your lucky to get 235's under them. i had one and it sucked being a uni body because it meant big bucks for a suspension lift.

Nice project. This is a great Explorer site. I spend a lot of time there.
