my truck has been having some major, and dangerous electrical problems with my 98 silverado(350 vortec) this weekend.

it all started saturday. on saturday i was driving down the highway when suddenly my interior lights flashed, stereo turned off, check engine light was erased(something about the catylist effeciency), and my parking brake light came on for about 5 seconds. the motor didnt stall or loose power. then it happend again about 5 minutes later, all the some symptoms, but this time my cruise stopped working, and i havent been able to get it to work since. this happend a couple more times on my way home.

then yesterday as i was pulling out of a parking lot onto a main drag, my truck seem to just shutoff when i turned my turn signal on(possibly coinsidence), all the lights still worked, but my stereo ejected a CD, and the engine stopped. it started back up immediatly. i pulled into the next parking lot, stopped everything seemed fine, shifted into drive, and same thing happend again. took acouple laps around the parking lot, stalled one more time while i was driving, but then seemed fine. headed for my mechanics garage, second like i stopped at it stalled again, took afew tries to start this time, once it got running i headed for the nearest parking lot, stalled again pulling into a spot. after being told i couldnt leave my truck there unless i was waiting for a tow. i wigled the relays in the fuse box under the hood, hoped for the best, and headed for home again. it was fine all the way home(about a 25 minute drive thru the city), got home figured it was a loose relay, headed out again. got about 45 minutes for driving in before it started again, this time going down the hwy and 70mpr. it restarted on its own this time, gave the truck quite a shutter though. this time i noticed my gas guage was maxing out everytime it happend. found an exit, turned around(stalled one more time when i shifted to reverse), headed for home, and it was fine the rest of the ride home.

all the shops are closed here today(holiday) so ill have to wait untill tommorow to get it in. I also noticed my heater controls are not working properly now either(temp control works, fan control works, level control(where the air blows) doesnt work)

do you guys have any suggestions? advice? thoughts?

I've heard of things like this on some of the Pontiac cars, but never on the trucks. Sounds like you got the bug....and real bad too. I wonder if this is a grounding issue???

ya its a ground issue. check your grounding straps from the motor to the frame, chances are they are lose or rusted and not making good contact. If thats not the problem check the connection to the computer, these have been know to wiggle loose in some cases. If this keeps happening take in to a shop as a sudden power surge can wreck a computer and then leave you with yet another problem.

cheers

problem solved. my positive terminal was all but broken off inside the battery:S low voltage to the computer seems to have caused all the major problems. the only thing left to fix is the HVAC. pretty cheap fix($30) for a seemingly major problem
