I've been having some wireless issues for awhile now.
I used to use wireless in our house frequently on my notebook. I did not change anything that I am aware of, but now the wireless does not work. When I go to connect to the network, it finds the network, and says it connects, but the internet will not load...so it's like there is signal, but no actual output. BUT, I have had other computers connect to our network no problem. My notebook will also run fine on any other wireless network I've tried, it's only our wireless it will not run on. We're using a NetGear router if it matters.
Can anybody point me in a right direction to getting it working again?
If more info is needed, feel free to ask. I don't even know where to begin with it.
TIA.

Try reseting your router, there should be a reset button located on the router itself. Also try typing in your I.P adress(192.168.X.X) into you adress bar, and restart it from there, after it restarts somewhere in your settings for your router should be its I.P adress. Makesure your computer is connecting to the right I.P, DNS sever, ect. Also what ive done in the past is reinstalled my wireless card on my laptop using the drivers disk.

You might try just repairing the connection. I've had to do that on mine ever since my DVR was hard wired to my router 24/7. A bit of nuisance, but it works. Something about sharing IP's and the 24/7 connect never releasing IP like most mobile device. Not put much effort into research since repairing works 100% of the time. Could be something as simple as getting new drivers installed for the router too. Could always reset the router password and start from scratch on setitng up the network.
Surprised ZLZEBUB didn't have a solution...he sounds like he knows everything abuot computers. [/sarcasm]

I've tried resetting the router a few times...also tried repairing the connection...both with no luck. What I don't get is how other people connect no problem, and how mine connects no problem to other networks. Seems weird to me.

will any messenger or im programs connect, or is it completely dead? like srx 600 said try to connect to the router. first right click on the wireless connection, hit status then click on the support tab, (assuming this is xp, vista is similar)then in a web browser enter the ip address that is listed as the default gateway. if the netgear login screen pops up then you know your computer is talking to the router, but the routers not passing traffic. also your ip address, default gateway, and dns ip address all should be 192.168.x.x unless your isp has you set it differently.

It is completely dead...no IE, no Firefox, no messenger, etc. I tried to connect to the router, but could not load that page either. The IP, Default, and DNS are all 192.168.x.x as you mentioned.

Well what ive also done in the past is hook it up directly(wired) and see if it connects that way, and if it does then it should remember all the settings when you disconect the ethernet cable and "should" connect via wireless. If that does not work then the last thing on my list is to create a static i.p.

bring up your network connections.right click on the wireless, go down to properties scroll to tcp/ip right click go to properties verify it is set to automatically obtain ip address and auto dns.
you can also pull up ypur device manager and go to wireless card properties and click disable wait a second then click enable.sometimes that jump start will also work. after you do all that close you browser then open it again. good luck i hope i kind of helped you.

I've been running it via cable for the last few days...works fine. Still no wireless when I connect that way.
Thanks for all the replies thus far.

is the firewall enabled on the wireless connection? shouldn't block everything but ya never know. have you disabled and re-enabled the adapter? that kinda odd that it shows up but wont pass traffic.

Like i said create a static i.p address. Either that or put your computer into DMZ mode with your router, which sets it outside your nat firewall.

"These dudes follow me around".
Your all-cap screen name and garbage information, not to mention sentences with multiple periods randomly placed between words and random ALL CAPITAL words are pretty hard to miss. Also when you post garbage information you will naturally get more replies of people correcting you so someone doesn't take your piss-poor advice.
It's not something you should be proud of.

System Mechanic?!? Wow, that has been around since Win95 days. It's far from the fix-all it claims to be. It's little more than a stripped down registry editor. Everyone's miliage will vary on it's use. I too used to swear by it too...over a decade ago. Then I found more efficient ways of fixing things. It's a waste of time and you're post are a waste of bandwidth to suggest using it.
Just because you're a paid "tech' or have a A+ certificate doesn't mean you're a computer expert.
System Mechanic...Really? (:rolleyes)

QUILAN....system mechanic is rated in the top ten this year....just try it....it can fix it...type in system mechanic reviews in google....obviously they didn't....its a great program for beginners and nonputer savy people to run for fixes.....plus its a free trial...then ya uninstall it after you sure machine works.....so did ya get it workin or not?

I stopped paying attention to this thread awhile ago. Just for s#its and giggles I downloaded and ran your program. It did not fix my problem.
I know there were other things in this thread mentioned. I'll go through them later when I have more time. Been playing the farmer role the last few days, so haven't had time to actually sit down and look into things thoroughly.

ZLZEBUB you have earned yourself another warning for typing with excessive periods in sentences.
Quinlan, System Mechanic is an ancient program that doesn't work worth a crap. I've been using wireless for a long time and I cannot think of a situation I've had that you are in. I'd like to help but I'm drawing a blank.
Also, I'm jealous that you get to play farmer roles. I get to play "look at wet dirt" roles. We cultivated 20 acres this morning, might put our corn plot in this afternoon. Then more sitting on our cans waiting for a proper sized field to dry up. 20 acres. Yay. 40 foot planter, takes about 50 minutes to plant that.
Every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. That means every day you see me, that's the worst day of my life.

Quinlan is a little disappointed that he received HMK Highmark 4 boots instead of the Highmark Pros as he had anticipated...

I presumed it was ancient when Pierre said it was from the Win95 era. Just had to run it to prove it didn't work.
I've been out putting down urea with the spreader; dad follows behind with the drill. He teaches during the day so we only farm the afternoon/evenings. After tonight we should hopefully have 150 acres left. Then again, I think we only have 600 total. Dad just came in for lunch. He was out at 5am trying to finish up 12acres from last night. Got all done and realized the alternator was seized up on the tractor...so we may not have had power to the electric clutch on the drill...so who knows what got planted. Should make for a fun evening of getting the tractor going again and figuring out what got planted. Oh well, could be worse...everything could be under water!

A mountain lion roaming the prairie found a bull, killed it and ate the entire bull. With a heavy belly, unable to walk, the lion laid in the tall grass moaning and roaring. Soon a hunter, attracted by the roaring, shot and killed the lion.
Moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut!

it did point you towards the problem....after you used it and it still does not work.....it means its not you machine but the router or an external.....you got green throttles on both acounts? using it like taking out the plugs and pulling the cord to see if you get spark.....did it fix it? maybe not, but it points you to the problem if its somewhere else....well good luck. i am curious as to what the new latest and greatest autofixer they will give you to try then and see if that works as well....let us know if ya gets it
