K well after paintballing a bit this summer i was thinking about making a gilly suit. I've watched all these videos and only thing i think will be hard is getting the burlap/fake leaves/jute put on. I'm just planning on getting the pants/jacket/some head piece putting netting on it and tieing all this on. So has anyone done this?

Organized Paintball field's that carry insurance, Will Not Allow Ghillie suit's, Due to their highly flammable nature.
This may sound stupid to you, but while I was working at Paintball Sam's here in Wi, We had a player burn himself pretty badly.
When his cigarette came in contact with his bug repellant soaked Ghillie suit, the suit Erupted in Flame's.
It took about a minute and a half to get the flame's out and the suit off of him, Not an experience I ever want to repeat!
That particular season there were a rash of similar incident's at several field's around the country.
Enough of them that the Industry Insurance Co.'s decided that they would No Longer insure field's that allowed the use of Ghillie suit's.
Check with your local field owner's, before going through the hassle, or expense of putting a suit together.
I played ball for 18 yr's, and worked in the industry for 15 of those yr's, so I'm not just coming up with this out of the blue, but from up close and very personal experience.

I guess I found one in Alexandria called "US marine Corps Recruiting".Would you have to have anything to get into the store or can anyone just go in and buy stuff?

Ya I have heard about them easily catching fire due to making them out of burlap. Also i usually just play around my place with friends out in woods/swampy areas so the field owners wouldnt be a problem.

Make sure you get the 1" sq. netting. I started making one out of some crap at a local craft store. It was small flimsy crap, didn't take long to say screw it.

Alot of guys use BDU's, but I would recommend ACU's for comfort. They are quite a bit cooler and way more flexible, BDU's are very restricting.

You can pick up flame retardant to put on them, I would suggest that if your worried about starting on fire.

www.snipercentral.com has a lot of useful info as well, although I'm sure the videos are extremely informative.

I think that gilly suits are overrated because they were developed for sniping when your more than 400 yards away from the target.

For what your playing, which is my kind of paintball too, which is woodsball a gilly suit is not as effective in close quarters combat that usually takes place in woodsball.

I would instead spend your money on some facepaint and good camis.

Just my 2 cents

true only reason i want one is for that and i might use it bowhunting i don't know how that would work but when i play woodsball I usually get put way up front or sitting in back picking people off.

Buy a rap4 t68 paintball marker with the money you dont spend on a gilly suit. I had one of these before I sold it before surgery and let me tell you it was the best marker I ever owned. It may only hold 18 rounds in the clip, but if you use the sights you are garanteed to hit your target everytime. Plus, its clip feed so no hopper peekin over that log before you do.

Moving through the woods as a walking bush is the farthest thing from concealment. The BDUs like Blackcat mentioned are about as good as you can come if you want the military look. If not get some Realtree camo gear and call it good. The guys who throw leaves and ferns and sticks in their ACHs(helmets) and combat gear are always the first ones to be spotted. Ghille suits are uncomfortable to move in and stick out like a sore thumb. The battlefield/paintball field is an always changing enviroment where a suit designed to blend into one distinct spot is useless. Concealment has very little to do with what you are wearing and everything to do with using your surroundings.

But yes a well made ghille suit does look pretty cool

Recognizing that I volunteered as a Ranger, fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession, I will always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor, and high esprit de corps of the Rangers. Acknowledging the fact that a Ranger is a more elite soldier who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by land, sea, or air, I accept the fact that as a Ranger my country expects me to move further, faster and fight harder than any other soldier. Never shall I fail my comrades. I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong and morally straight and I will shoulder more than my share of the task whatever it may be, one-hundred-percent and then some. Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well-trained soldier. My courtesy to superior officers, neatness of dress and care of equipment shall set the example for others to follow. Energetically will I meet the enemies of my country. I shall defeat them on the field of battle for I am better trained and will fight with all my might. Surrender is not a Ranger word. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country. Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission though I be the lone survivor.
