If local regulations say you can't have a loud exhaust, there's a reason other than raising money that it's illegal.

If you have noise regulations, leave it stock. Loud exhausts is one of the major complaints from landowners who are nice enough to let us ride through.

Stock anything sucks!!!!!

I disagree, I love the growl of my 450R when I hammer on it or rev it up in neutral, I think it sounds mean and it doesn't piss people off.

Who cares how much it costs, it shuts down trails for other riders to enjoy and including yourself. That is priceless and reason enough to not do it.

Leave it quiet. If you are putting a performance pipe on it that isnt super loud you should be ok. Loud exauhst is a big complaint and has shut down many trails. If the only reason your doing it is because you think it sounds cool leave it stock.

i completely disagree, in my area the landowners don't complain about loud sleds, hell most of them have them. And also, what if he rides on his own private land then it isn't "pissing anyone off"

IMO- If you are going to trail ride, leave it stock or a quieter aftermarket. Don't know where you are, but in WI, the fine is approx. $180.00, I think.

When I used to rip around out in our field on my ZR with a snostuff rumblepack on it, it made some neighbors cranky. Yea they can't do much about it but I still care about being respected throughout the neighborhood.

Wow,,the guy gets all these negatives for asking a question?? If people think its the loud aftermarket exhaust thats the problem,,either you dont know what your talking about or you dont have a brain..Its the people with the loud exhaust that let er rip when going by peoples houses on the trails at night that are gonna get the complaints from land owners,,my FACTORY exhaust on my ZRT is louder than some of the aftermarkets I've heard,,do I care,,NO..I'm not disrespectful when on the trails going by houses...Who really gives a damn how loud a sled is out in the middle of nowhere?? What about Harleys or vehicles with loud exhaust??? Are you people gonna preach about them too?? No difference...

My comment that stock any thing sucks got taken way out of context.I would like to appoligize to those I've offended, and for those of us that have the loud mods I would hope we all realize that there is a time and place for them. Thanks and have a great week-end.Willie

The difference between being loud on a sled or a car is this. The road the car is on is govt property. The govt pays people to work on them. People can complain all they want and that road will still be there the next day.

The snowmobile trail on the other hand is on private property. The property owners are kind enough to let the trail cross there land. Most all of the work on the trails is done by volunteers. If one land owner gets fed up with the noise and closes there section of trail that trail has to be rerouted. Sometimes the trail cant be rerouted and the closing of one land owner can screw up a complete trail network.

Show some respect to the landowners who let you cross their property and to the volunteers who work hard to mantain the trail so everyone can enjoy it by not putting the loudist exaust possible on your sled.

And that's why I said " don't know where you are" Around here, a lot of the trails go right next to houses. That's the only reason I said what I did....from personal experience. If people in your area have no problem with the louder exhaust, go for it!! Around here they would. I was going to put triple pipes on mine, but don't want to pay the $180.00 and have to take them right back off.

Edit: You should update your profile, so we can give you more accurate answers on things like this.

Yes, and some states aftermarket exhausts are illegal,,and for a reason,,but alot of states they are not,,that was my point people are preaching without knowing where a person is from,,might not be a problem in a persons area...But no, anytime someone brings up a can or loud exhaust,,they get pummeled,,which in my opinion is awful rude...And the reason I brought up cars and harleys with loud exhaust is from the point of annoying people and disturbing the piece,,not about closing streets down,,just like aftermarket exaust on smowmobiles is illegal is some states,,so are straight pipes on cars and bikes,,but you dont hear people complaining about that...
XLT96RIDER,,I know how they are in Wisconsin about complaining,,I use to live there,,crybabies complain about everything there...Just before we moved,,in the city we lived in,,they outlawed cottonwood trees because some of the people didnt like the cotton in the air,,all of the people that had them had to pay to have them removed whether you had the money to do it or not,,either that or you got a hefty fine and the city got someone to remove them and sent you a bill...

I definately agree that you need to respect other people, but my main point was, where I ride no one cares how loud the sled is. I should have said all our trails run in the ditches and on some farmers land. However, they all have sleds and most are loud. So it's all in where you ride and what the laws are. This is too touchy of a subject to completely answer because it's different everywhere you go.

Stay stock or buy a SLP can. I bought a SLP can and it's a little louder than stock but not much and have went through checks with no problem.

polaris_specail, loud exhaust and any question about modifying any sled older than 2000 is a big no no at this site...your question never gets answered and you always get pummeled, my advise is if you have any question regarding that just get to know a few guys here and pm them instead of posting a thread unless your looking for a majority vote on leave it stock then a thread is the way to go

You guys are preaching to him without even knowing WHERE HE LIVES...

Obviously he lives in an area where it's illegal to have a loud exhaust.....

Is it obvious?? Maybe he's planning on going to a state where its illegal?? Ever thought of that?? Why dont you ask where he lives before preaching...Get rid of the blue wig...

White wig would have worked better.

Anyway if someone came into your area with a loud exhaust and caused a trail closure, wouldn't you be pissed??? How about thinking about the reprocussions of the fact that it could be illegal wherever he goes rather than whether or not it's legal where he lives. He could live in Florida for all we know. He ain't RIDING it there.
