I turned back, put on my hazards and snagged him up off the road before he got hit. I saw a pond about 100 yards away. Figured he was heading back to it, so i let him go next to the pond. He dove right in:)
Feels good to help out a cool little guy like that.
He was a good size for a Slider' (Maybe about the size of a Nurf football?)

Here are some pictures of them. You may have had one as a pet when you were a kid?

We have saved a couple of those from the road as well. Kept them as pets for a few days when younger, always got bored with the turtles dull personality though and turned it loose again.

we also saved a duckling from the road one time, as its mother had been hit by a car.

I always stop to help out a turtle in the road haha. It is just not fair that the little guys are so slow.. it is inevitable that they will die crossing.

I remember as a kid my dad stopping to get one across... as soon as he picked it up it pissed all over him! I swear it was like a 4 foot stream! Man was that funny!

we've had 7 of them come up from the swamp and dig nests in the yard, one right next to our front steps, in about 70 days we're going to be hip deep in mud turtles!!

Could it have been Gamera?...

I have grabbed a few Snapping Turtles also, on or near the road. I have relocated a couple in my two ponds also.
Fisrt task is to find a stick for them to bite. This distracts them while I grab'em by the tail and then off we go.
