Hello Fanatics,
I need some suggestions.....here are my ideas but I would love to hear your thoughts, ideas and comments.
I'm wanting to take my 21 year old son on a snowmobile vacation. We're both novices, having 4-wheeler experience and a little sledding. We do not own sleds so will be looking to rent. My vehicle is set up to tow if needed.
The schedule is probably early January for a full week. We live in Iowa and will be driving. My first thought is Yellowstone. I've never been there and would like to do some sightseeing. However, the thought of single file, slow riding, more than a day is not that appealling. Not to me and I'm sure not to my son. So a place where we could experience different types of riding would be great.
As far as accomodations, my first thought is to find a resort that has cabins where we could fix our own meals.
I welcome any help you can provide. Thanks in advance!!

Give us some more info. about yourself, like where you live. You may find that you don't have to go all that far away from home!?

Also I think I would pick a destination that is a little more low-key to avoid all the hubbub'.
Get your location up there for us and you will have some folks on here give you some great options for what you requested.

Larimie, Wyoming. We live in NW Iowa and make a 5 day trip out there every year and a couple to the Black Hills. I can't think of the name of the place but they have sled rental and many cabins for you to stay in and its right next to the trail. They have many trails, deep snow, and tons of boondocking areas.

Rentals there that they will drop off at the trail head for you,
Cabins or motels with kitchenettes are a good option here.
Both trail and off trail riding, all in the mountains, of course.
Oh ya, that, and I can also ride Mccall and help you get stuck and unstuck, lol

I second the Laramie, Wyoming, but with a few different changes. First, either stay in a small town outside of Laramie called Centennial or rent one of the cabins. In Centennial there is a hotel called the OLD CORRAL that is run buy a huge guy name Ken. We call him tiny, but he is a great guy and can cook a hell of a steak for you in the restaurant. Plus mention you saw an add online and he usually gives you a discount. Make sure you drink lots of water and give your body time to get used to the altitude or you can end up sick. The Snowies are great because they have a bit of everything (trails, climbing, boondocking, or tree riding. Pretty much whatever tickles your fancy. It's a good place to start out with consistently good riding year in and year out. The sights can be great as an added plus. Look through my Gallery and check out a bunch of pictures if you want....

Here are a few pictures from that area...

They don't call West Yellowstone the "snowmobiling capital of the world" for nothing.

A trip inside the park, although must by guided should be on everyone's bucket list

Dek, where was the picture third from the bottom taken? I've never been to that area that I can recall and have tried to find as many different hidden areas as possible the last 3 years we've been out there....

XLT96, I've got a friend who got about as close as it can get that almost hitting it head on, but it's a blast pulling a line where you have to cut up through the tree's jumping sides and throwing your sled around.
