We left a picture and a note to who ever may find this in the future.

That's cool!! I found a newspaper under my kitchen cabinet from the day they put them in. Upstairs in my house, one of the floors is lined with newspapers from the Vietnam era. Haven't been able to pull out a very big section though. One of these days, I'm gonna pull everything up and have fun reading...should be interesting!!!

That's going to look really good with a gloss black back splash! It'll really make the black in the granite "pop"!!

Have not taken a picture of my work in the dining room yet.. but the countertops got installed tonight! I had to help carry them in and get them in place. Holy GOD are they heavy! Here is a sneak peak

Juperano Bordeaux baby.. baddy bling.. Pictures do NOT do them justice. They are a little darker and more red than the pictures show. New black oven coming soon.. very soon. I am doing that black galaxy granite tile as a backsplash. Did it all with cash. There is that new snowmobile I could have purchased yet again.

Lookin good Matt. That sink looks awesome, in the corner with that fuucet. Good choice.

We found drugs in the bathroom walls in my house, then when we rebuilt it we put beer bottles in there.
I like writing little notes here and there before I cover stuff up with drywall. I built a landing/platform and under it I wrote "If you can read this, GET BACK TO WORK".

Matt the countertops look fantastic. Nice choice on the sink as well, we have a similar one at my parent's house.

What stove were you considering?

Looks like a complete revamp of the kitchen/dining room is happening...

haha I like that! We wrote a ton of information on the back of that picture and signed and dated a few other walls.

He did all the work at his shop. He only drilled the faucet holes and mounted the sink inside my house.

He is coming back tomorrow, he forgot to attach my dishwasher to the countertops. I can't install it and emailed him. My faucet is also spinning because I can't get it figured out. He has a tool or some crap and is coming tomorrow. Thanks! I am impressed with it! Nothing against santa cecilla but this stone is more exotic and granite looking IMO. Like moldy bolongna!

Yep.. back on this again.

Has anyone tiled their own coutertop? I am considering doing that. Or, I am going to pay for a solid piece and have an installer do it (not tiled).

my husband is a counter guy, makes and installs granite, corian, and tile. he has always said it's not anything he would want, and can be hard to keep germ free. can end up with more up keep on it ? but i don't think it would be any harder then doing a floor, we done our own floor and it turned out great !! good luck.

Congrats Matt!!

What's next on the agenda? Appliances, backsplash, ect?
Hopefully it's not too late but I was gonna tell you to see if you could get the piece of granite from where they cut your sink out. We made ours into a sweet cutting board and you just lean it up against your backsplash and it matches. Just a thought for ya but I'm happy I did it.

Hillarious joke BTW!

^ Well I had an oven bought but the guy sold it out from under me. So I am on the hunt for another one but backsplash is going to happen this coming weekend. I am working on the windowsill last night and tonight in the dining room. BTW home depots workers and self checkout can go to hell.

I can get the piece but I don't think I want a 60 lb cutting board lol. Granite would dull the frick out of my knifes too.

I also have an upcoming diamond purchase. Probably this week. So home renovations are going to be halted here for awhile :(

Sweet looking Matt. Always liked the lighter color granite.

Was down to my sisters house in Warner Robins Ga. last week and this is her counter top they just got installed last winter. Pictures don't do justices on the depth of the shine on granite tops.

^ Very nice! Little dark for my taste and my kitchen but very nice!

I decided this is what I am going with. Doing the work this weekend! Went with unsanded brown (slightly reddish) grout.

Current progress

^ That messed up tile by the receptical has been fixed since the picture.
It is not grouted yet. I am grouting it tommorrow night with black (probably) grout! Was up till 1.30 a.m. working on it. That hardybacker board took up way to much time! That stuff sucks to work with!

This upgrade is now officially a renovation.

I was wondering what that was..sure looks like it.

Looks like your project is coming along quite nicely. Wish mine was. Stupid older homes.(1950) Nothing straight, nothing square, what a pain in the ass!!! But almost done too. Hopefully just a couple more weeks.

^ I demand pictures!

Yep, it looked like a mixture of honey bees and wasps or something. Had the paper nests in there and honey comb. They ate all the drywall and insulation. I ditched all old drywall and hung hardybacker (that stuff sucks to work with!). I put in new insulation there and totally ditched the exhaust fan as you can see. All bees have been removed, Looks like the old homeowner killed them with spray in a hole and sealed them in with foam. I got rid of them bastards for good. Grout tommorrow night!

My granite guy has been a no call no show many times now and is not returning phone calls. Look like I have to buy some things online and set this dishwasher to the granite myself. There is also a small chip on an edge I want him to fix but of course, he has disappeared.

Still have stuff to do like remove those canisters that don't match now, paint a door, receptical covers and wire in GFI's, new oven/fridge/microwave vent.. but the hard work is done so pictures are ready. HAve to seal the grout tonight.
Some of these are before and afters.
I would have used other stuff if I was going to live here forever. This isn't 100% my taste. I like dark granite and dark backsplash but I had to think about resale and the next owners liking it also. Dark stuff makes a kitchen small so I had to compromise and go with what I did.

VERY nice Matt. Really does look great.

My wife and I made the same coices about our tastes vs. the next owners taste. So we went with more neutral colors everywhere.

Right with ya man. My house was built in 51 and after a year and a half I have yet to find a single straight board or a 90 deg angle. The joists between the second floor and first floor arent even sistered together. They were butted together above the header, so there was only 1.75" of each joist sitting on the header itself. So I cut a bunch of 4 ft 2x8s and plated both sides of each joist where they were not sistered together. Cheap bastards they were in 1951.
