Weiscos are forged pistons and so they do expand more than the cast OEM pistons.
This meens that you need a larger clearance between piston and cylinder, and that does lead to more piston slap when the motor is cold.
They are less expensive though, so if you do go that way, be sure to warm that motor up COMPLETELY before you even think of riding it, EVERY TIME.
Give that forged metal plenty of time to expand with the engine heat.
You should be warming the engine up every time any way, but even more so with the Weiscos.

Personally, I won't run Weiscos in my sled for just this reason.
If you need to save a buck (and most of us do) look to the OEM Spec pistons that your local shop can get out of the Western Power book.
I forget who makes them, but they are OEM spec and cast the same way OEM is, but for less money than Pure Polaris.
I ran a set of them in an Ultra for some years with no problems.

Here ya go,
Pretty much every shop buys from WPS and these are better than Weiscos and for less money than Pure Polaris.
(You see it better at www.wps-inc.com go to the snow catalog and then to page 336)

wiseco pistons generate a small amount of power more than stock pistons, and make sled run different. I had wiseco pistons in my 1991 polaris indy 650 tripple after i blew the stock OEM ones. the sled made a little bit more power, and was louder, how? i don't know. this happenend to a bunch of buddies sleds too, same "symtoms". they blow alot faster than stock. reliability go OEM.

thats the stupidest post ive ever seen.

i bet you any set of pistons would have made a difference, you got a dyno sheet to prove it? no. and its impossible to make it louder by different pistons. give your head a shake kid.

I'd recommend SPI's...

I rebuilt my storm 800 with them, and they've been through hell trying to tune and jet it, and I haven't had an issue. Got about 600 miles so far after rebuild. (and they aren't easy miles, let me tell you...)

95 - Storm 800 - Modded - AKA: FrankenStorm - Totalled near 100mph at Tug Hill!
96 - XLT/SP with Storm 800 trip/trip and now EFI - FrankenStorm II lives...
95 - RXL -- Sale Pending --
05 - Edge 800 long track - Stayin' stock for now..

Wrong,a piston with higher compression will make it sound different. A wore engine will sound different then a fresh one. If you have spent much time rebuilding engines you will notice this,my brothers ultra sounded noticably different at idle after getting new pistons.

RMK-KING this is for guessing what my sled was

New pistons do make a sled perform better but I would only put in O.E.M pistons

1998 Polaris Indy 500 chassis with 98 Xc 600 motor
SLP ceramic coated pipe with SLP can
V-force reeds
4 inch pivot riser
Gutted Air Box
EPI clutch kit soon to be installed
Maybe some pro tapers

1998 XC 700 water-cross sled
SLP twin pipes
Some light weight parts
Water-cross mods include taking the parts u do not need
This includes removing the seat replacing gas tank and IFS bars.

That's exactly what's I used. Was ~$50 a hole with rings and wrist pins, a couple years ago when I did mine.

600 abused miles later, and I'm installing EFI on that block.. (why in f**k did I ever decide to do that!?!?!?!?)

hmm i did not know about the sound, but i knew rebuilding a worn engine would help it greatly.
