How flexible are dealers on price?
- How much will they budge on new sleds?

We're thinking of buying two touring sleds - in the 500cc range. I'd like to buy used but I'm finding VERY few touring sleds for sale. I understand sellers typically wait till fall before listing their sleds (we live in the Mpls, MN area). In the event that we can't find what we want in a used sled, what experience do you have with dealers? How much do they move off their sticker prices?
I stopped in to the local Polaris dealer and he said they only have one touring sled on order (due to arrive in late August) and the list price is $6,575. I know there are plenty of variables, but in your general experience how much will a dealer budge on a sled like this? Assume we're paying cash.
Thanks!

They rarely move there new sleds in pricing unless the dealer is hurting they might knock 300 bucks off the price, the used sled inventory is pretty dead set where i am atleast. well i shouldnt say that.. they move on those prices more than the new ones.
My 2cents..

On the new ones they really don't like playing on the price. If you were to get a new one, atleast get a free spare belt, gal. oil, etc.
It will be harded to find a left over touring sled, that never sold a year or two old. I would fig. out how many miles you are willing to travel and look up Polaris dealers in that radius. Call around and see if they have any. Leftover sleds can be $1,000-$2,000 off, free extra engine warranty, depending on model. Still try and get free belt, oil, etc. get what you can.
I'd aleast go with a 600cc. Touring sleds have alittle more track, and weight to move.

It all depends on how you present yourself at the dealer. From my experience things go alot easier when you walk in and you are the boss. You walk in with the mindset that you don't need to buy the sled there and you will go down the road to get the deal you want.
My last experience buying a sled was the best I have had because I was in control. I walked in with my Pro X2 and Vector and said I want to trade these in on a new dragon today. They decided they would take them and asked me how much I wanted for them. I told them I don't care what you give me for them, but I am only going to spend $6000 today, and I am going to spend it somewhere, if not here, down the road at your competition. Sales guy and manager talk it over and say that will work out. Hour or so later I'm out the door minus the X2 and Vector, new Dragon on the trailer with a cover and spare belt for $5800.
Another thing that helps is walking in with cash. People selling things will be alot more willing to sell cheaper if it is cash.

I would've tried a different approach, With you telling them that you have 6k to spend (cash), then they're going to try to get as much as they can, and lets say they valued your trades at xxxx and xxxx and you would've only needed to spend 5k cash ontop, they know you have that extra grand, so they'll lower your trade value to get more cash.
When I go with dad, what he tries to do (if we have a trade) is go in there and talk till he finds a cash price on the machine that is suitable for both parties, and then he says I have this to trade-in, knows what the book is on it, and says this is what I want, you allow me that much on trade and Ill make up the the difference on the price we talked about in cash, and usually the deal is done, if not, walk out, YOU are the buyer, YOU always have the power.

Thanks guys. I went online last night and searched the Arctic Cat site for all dealers in a 3 hour radius. I emailed that group w/my sled criteria. We'll see what sort of responses I get back. This is how I purchased my last two vehicles as well so hopefully I have similar luck. I drove 3 hours to pick up my last car because that dealer shaved about 8% off a $30k+ car - and the local dealers wouldn't touch it (back when cars were selling a few years ago).

Dealers are very flexible, but never be the first to mention a dollar value!!!
Ask them how much they'll drop off of the list, and after they give you a price counter-offer with a couple hundred dollar lower price. I dropped a $6,500 sled to $5,500 that way.
95 - Storm 800 - Modded - AKA: FrankenStorm - Totalled near 100mph at Tug Hill!
96 - XLT/SP with Storm 800 trip/trip and now EFI - FrankenStorm II lives...
95 - RXL -- Sale Pending --
05 - Edge 800 long track - Stayin' stock for now..
