im thinking its a toss up between four sleds ..

1. thundercat 1000 98 to 01

2.98 -2000 xcr 800

3.98-2000 mach z 800

4.srx 700

i want something fast and sounds great .to me , i just cant beat the sound of a triple triple screaming . but being these are older models , i want to keep em close to stock and still trail ride them and reliability issues anyone can point out to look out for wouyld be greatly appriciated . what do you guys think would make the most since as a trailable sled ? half descent mileage ? looks ? what would you guys look into ...thanks again .

2000-2003 XCR 800 would be my choice, all around great machine , second would have to be the cat 2001 or newer

I would say any of those four would be cool to own, I don't know much about the reliability on them but I do know my dad had a 97 XCR 600 and it was a fast and fun sled to ride with no issues. As long as you maintain it I would think any of the four would be fine. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this but didn't some of the Mach Z's have electrical problems?

Its all going to be personal prefferance. I personally would get the XCR (cause I almost bought that sled instead of my 600). Doesnt take much to push a lot of hp. Poo's have a lot of interchangeable parts from year to year, you can still find aftermarket products for that machine.

Sound well I would have to say Cat wins that hands down. All of Cats trips are nasty sounding. The Yami I was told more your trail sled out of those but that MachZ is no hoe either. Just a question for you...all four of these sled are hard to find these days. People that have them kept them, have you found each one of these for sale? Good conditions, still trailable? The reason I ask is because I know people are using them mainly for drags or taking out the Triple and building a sleeper in an RR or edge or an old ZR chasis. I still see the SRX's are going for $15-2500 here in MI. Good luck.

The yamahas are pretty reliable triples aren't they? I'd go with Yamaha, they held on to the triple 2 stroke the longest and it will have the best suspension package.

My money is on the Cat only because my friend has one and my brother tried to race one on his skidoo triple 700 with aftermarket pipes, clutch kit, and 196 studs with a ripsaw track and the thundercat smoked his ass. If you were not able to get the thundercat i would buy the polaris xcr

1998 Polaris Indy 500 chassis with 98 Xc 600 motor
SLP ceramic coated pipe with SLP can
V-force reeds
4 inch pivot riser
Gutted Air Box
EPI clutch kit soon to be installed
Maybe some pro tapers

1998 XC 700 water-cross sled
SLP twin pipes
Some light weight parts
Water-cross mods include taking the parts u do not need
This includes removing the seat replacing gas tank and IFS bars.

i would definatly take the srx 700.. my dad owns one and i begged to take it to school when i had my old polaris....it wins like easy outa those other machines..i did 115 on my dads across the lake and that was with a bad belt..and outa all my friends i had way better acceleration..and when we came to a bumpy section of the trail where everyone else took the road i was still on the trail flying right by them all with ease. Some people say that triples arent good for tight winding trails but all you have to do is lean and hit the gas and it will throw the back end around and get around that corner faster then you can say GET THE SRX

2002 1/2 zr 440 sno pro
-D&D clutching
-Fox shocks
-6 inch bar risers
-C&A skis
-1.5 track
-RSI handguards w/ billet mounts
-RSI mountain bar

Oh comon, you show your age. What kind of statement is that?

I would get the Polaris, It is second in power and probably best in mileage.

Power-Thundercat
Reliability-Yamaha
Mileage-XCR

In my opinion the XCR has the best combination of the three. But then again I dont know much about the skidonts.

I'd vote for the T-cat, but I'm a little biased. They flat out haul ass.

Any of the ones you picked would be a nice ride.
