To all those who think socialism is a good idea, I found this today. It is definitely something worth thinking about, especially with regard to the new bills going through congress which deal with national health care, etc.
The late Adrian Rogers said, "You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it." This man is truly a genius!
An economics professor at a college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had once failed an entire class. That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on based on socialism". All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.
After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.
As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little. The second test average was a D! No one was happy.
When the third test rolled around, the average was an F. The scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.
All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

I wouldnt consider UHC a socailistic society.
Health care is a huge problem that is just getting worse.

Socialism isn't all good or all bad, capitalism isn't all good or all bad. But a good mixture of the two is what is needed for our country to succeed.
Owning a race sled is like having a totally hot girlfriend..... All of your friends want to see it, feel it and check it out..... They all want to know what it is like to ride it, but if they only knew how much time and money it takes to keep one up, they would call you a fool!

This post is considered "no good" by the community with a rating of -3. View it anyways?
Anyone who thinks that is a "good example" of why socialism is a _bad_ thing has a VERY narrow view of the world
and no, I don't support socialism
Epic.

Yea but don't they give the rich people breaks on taxes too, i would be happy if they quit that and taxed everyone equally and left it at that.
EDIT: What erick said is completely true however. Averaging out all the money would definately have negative effects.

They should get breaks for the disproportionate amount they pay in taxes. Don't mention what they give back to their comunity, health care that they provide for employees, charities, and money they spend on R&D to provide better products for us, and jobs! If anyone deserves a tax break it's them (wealthy Capitalists).

I’m not saying I support socialism but I just think paying a little more taxes to have my healthcare costs covered by the province or state is worth it to me. I guess if someone has never been seriously ill they don’t see the point.
I believe that whomever the citizens of a country elect should make an honest effort to improve the lives of the people who elected them.
But I am strongly apposed to bailouts....
Tax payers should not carry the bill for greedy lazy CEO's etc.

DING, DING, DING...ladies & gentleman...we have a winner!
Here's a more closely related scenario for all to think about. You work hard - put in some overtime, save your cash, go without 'other' things to buy that NEW sled you've ALWAYS wanted. Then, you join the 30 person group ride one weekend. You're told you only get to ride it for an hour, then you have to start letting each and every one of the other 29 people take a turn on it before you it's your turn to ride it again.
My guess is that it would become the same scenario that it's like for other people who 'thought' Socialism wasn't a bad idea in that it sounds great in principle...until it affects you personally.

Free? Like in pay nothing nowhere nada? Can't happen. Now if you mean, you pay nothing to the provider, that would be great! But how do we get there? Here in the US, there is not one idea that our government can't ruin!! Healthcare run by our idiots would suck up about half of every Americans pay check. OK, maybe that is something of an exaggeration.
I would sure be interested in finding out how much of your taxes go to heath care. I know your pay scales for many trades are higher than here in the US but your cost of living is also substantially higher. Is the difference worth it?

Well, thought it was too good to be true so checked it out:

And, to the one that stated our country needs to be a mix of capitalism and socialism I hope George Washington's wooden teeth bite you on your ass.

Well I think the difference is worth it.
I agree any government can do a better job at spending money than they do, I just think covering my and my family health costs with my tax dollars was a good decision.

I agree with you on that and I agree that something should be done, though exactly what remains to be seen. Covering myself and my family with MY tax dollars is fine. Where I have the real issue is covering OTHER people with MY tax dollars. There are many people who milk the system. There are many people who do not take care of themselves, make pour life decisions (in regard to health, irresponsibly having 14 kids with 10 different people, etc), do not eat the right foods, smoke cigarettes, drink excessively, and cause harm to themselves. This all adds up to cost me more money. If someone has heart disease, is genuinely sick, has cancer, etc that's a different story. Those people who destroy their bodies and the ones who take no responsibility for their actions and expect the health care system to kick in and take care of them should be turned down, IMO. Who am I to say what people can and cannot do to themselves. They can do what they want, it's a free country, it shouldn't be a free ride though.

The people you describe are already getting free health care on our tax dollars.....why not try to get people health care who have low end job's who's employers offer no health care?
I know a few people who are on welfare and have the best health care around......no premiums,no deductible for office visits or perscriptions.who pays for it? You and I.
We will allway's have people looking a free ride, but I think that the majority are good people.
speaking of welfare have you seen were MN welfare dollar's are being spent?
welfare people really get around!

I like to say, if you think health care is expensive now, wait until it's free.
Anyway, to the make national coverage budget nutueral, they will most likely increase taxes on ciggerettes, liqour, etc...to hlep offset the health care costs associated with those type of things.
I reject your reality and substitute my own.
