I had an XLT and I thought it would be cool to have one of those mirror dashplates.......Well at night when sleds were behind me their lights would reflect in the dash plate and drive me nuts. Waste of cash.

Also bought some Kimpex Gold gas shocks that lasted 2-3 rides before they were junk....The seller (Spankys) would not warranty.

What have you bought that you consider a waste of cash or time.

"Riders Choice" gloves!!!!

Every tine you take them off, the liner pulls halfway out!! Then it takes forever to get them back on, because you have to work the liner back in..

GEAR Saddlebags
The clips that link the saddlebags to the sled break really easy, don't work in the cold very well, and get crusted with snow and ice and don't open or will break. I was out 100 bucks.
Nice thread idea, by the way.

My heated shield cord gets VERY annoying.
LED taillight bulbs, throw them out
Cheap snow pants
Arctic cat jacket that the zipper got me stuck in the jacket 100 times
Dupli-color paint for the pipes that peels right off
studded track that detonated after tear outs
another studded track that did the same thing (had to learn that lesson twice)

I have been extremely fortunate but never buy cheap snowpants at fleet farm for $10, they just last half a season.

The RMK I bought for the suberbs of MN.

I had a great time with it and it was a good experience, but every so often it was a complete pain in the ass to keep from over heating even with snow scratchers.

This SLP pipe....I wouldn't say it was a bad product but I didn't think the small HP gain was worth the cash. The Erandsen clutch kit on that sled (07' Dragon) was a much better return for the money I spent. Now days I pretty much leave em' stock. I stud the tracks and throw a can on em'.

The 1.6" paddle track I had in my ZR was not the greatest. I ordered it from TracksUSA and installed it. A friend of mine called to order one later on, and they told him to stay away, as they were a notorious problem. Only a season or two later (with only maybe 200 miles a season) I had almost all the lugs rip out on one side. Part of it could have been from carving in shallow snow, but when the other side started ripping out, I knew it wasn't totally my fault.

I've also owned 2 pairs of Castle-X gloves. I believe they were $60-70 from a dealer. My hands have never been so cold riding sled...and it wasn't even all that cold out. Huge disappointment there. I liked my Castle-X jacket, but that's as far as my purchasing from them ever went after the sh!tty gloves.

Funny! But I thought that a few times when laying in the hospital! LOL!

I got another one. Shipping my seat out to get recovered. Shipping a seat that is attached to a gas tank is a huge pain and expensive. It turned out nice but was more trouble than it was worth.

Expensive socks - Made my feet colder than my cheap thick socks.

Underarmor type shirt/pants to use when riding sled. Worthless

Expensive fancy drive belt.. works worse than my old worn belt

Kimpex gold gas shocks.. just as someone else said, junk

Ski skins gave me little stisfaction other than looking good on the New STX I got in '96. decreased handeling on the trail. I think they had or have an application, but not for trail riding, maybe bush and powder riding which they were fine in those conditions.

Replaced the Monster stickers over my front WE shock resivors with some cut up Keystone Ice cans, noticed a considerable difference in performance.

A tank of gas from the local Ultramar.... it contained WAY too much water and ruined the last trip of my season. I've been informed that the gas from their has too much water in it for toys, so I'll only be going to the Esso here.

Nothing aside from that yet...

Anything that kimpx makes is **** & a waste of money.

But the part that i had/used that was the biggest waste of money was a Camoplast energy track with 96 traction monster studs, riding not overly hard it lasted half a season, now 23 studs are missing, theyre a 11 outside lugs still on track(most are only half a lug), and 18 inside lugs missing. along with lots of fiberglass strips showing!

Present sleds:

1998 Polaris Indy 500: red screens, red/black Sportech handguards with billet mounts, red C&A pro Razors with 9” sharpers, red gripper running board trim, red hyfax, billet pull handle, billet brake lever, silver front & rear bumpers, low black windshield, custom graphics, clutched (Primary: Polaris blue primary spring #7041080, 10m5 weights, sheave/belt clearance is set at .015''. Secondary clutch: 42/36 helix, SLP black driven spring), geared (dropped 1 tooth), 121" x 15" x 0.91" Camoplast/Polaris track with 96 studs, stripped warning decals, white-faced edge chassis speedometer & tachometer.(For sale).

Heres one I consider a bad investment. Last year I bought a aluminum start rope handle. I thought it would look nice and class up my machine. Well one cold morning I tried to start the big block thumper and that handle was ripped right out of my paws. Slap it goes to the hood,a nice scratch (gouge)later I was removing the P.O.S. and putting the stock plastic one back on.
