I put a Bully Dog Triple Dog in my truck and holy s***! I had heard about how "de-tuned" diesels are but christ, this thing is scary fast now. I bought it for the gas mileage (which it has helped substantially) but I'm enjoying this new power more than anything.

I'm thinking to myself that this upgrade has got to be hard on my injectors when I beat on it but I can't help myself. How bad is this really for my truck if it's bad at all.

The thing shoots so much thick, jet black smoke now when you get on it that it's almost embarassing.
No matter what, I love the thing and it's staying in the truck....maybe I'll take it down from extreme though.

The main thing with a diesel truck and putting a tuner on it is making sure you dont let your egt's get too hot. A good number is 1350 degrees. If your going to tow anything you should think about getting a boost guage and a pyrometer in the exhaust so you can keep an eye on the egt when pulling a heavy load or climbing a big hill. Some other upgrades that work good are a larger exhaust and a high flow intake system. The more air you can get into a diesel and out, the cooler your egt's will run and it will make more power for longer before it de-fuels to cool the egt's. Diesel trucks are bad ass with a ton of potential.

I agree with xc1000. Gauges should be standard on all diesels. What kind of truck do you have sledneck? I've got an 07 5.9L Cummins with a smarty jr (other specs in sig). It only goes up to about 100 hp, but that's enough to break the tires lose at 65 mph. It was scary as hell. Just cruising down the hwy and punched the skinny pedal and I started fishtailing. If I have it on the performance level, it will smoke pretty good. But the economy and tow tunes don't smoke much unless I really get on it. I can't wait to swap in a 6-speed manual and get the smarty sr, which goes up to 170 hp. Then comes intake, injectors, airdog, and possibly a small set of twins (wife depending).

I need big jugs on my sled, cuz my girl doesn't.

The thing with chipping them is the EGT's and depedning on the power level, your tranny. If your going to chip them, exhaust forsure and air intake depeding on the truck and power level/mods. I have an 07 D-max Classic and stock I'm safe for 80hp is the general rule for the Allision. Just remember, black smoke might look cool, but that also means lost power.

i have a 07 ford 6 l and a bully dog triple tuner i never put it on extream i keep it on performance and it smokes lots but that is 75 more hp the book said that heavy trans mods are needed if you run it on ext but i also put it back to tow for my 30 foot 5th wheel or the trans will get smoked.

The truck I'm doing this to is an 07 mega cab 2500 5.9 cummins.

I do have a 4" silverline exhaust on it and a COI. Anyone know of a good place to get bushwackers for that truck. I've always got my stuff from Mcoys in OH but they're having issues supposedly so I'm open for suggestions.

Ditto. I have a 07 5.9 with the smarty Jr as well, pretty amazing power.

I see bigrok as been sucked into the cummins performance addiction as well. Save yourself some money and stay off of www.cumminsforum.com lol

I had the superships flash paq in my truck. It worked pretty well, I took it to the local drag strip and ran a 13.77 @ 102.4. Not to bad for a F250 6.0L.

^I've got the Bullydog 6 position chip on my '00 F350 with a 7.3. It really woke up the ol' diesel...just watch the EGTs and the Tranny Temps. I recommend both.

I have been bitten by the Cummins Performance bug. It's 1000x more addicting than sleds. In fact, the money I get if I ever sell my sled, will probably go toward a set of twins.

I have the same truck, 4dr not mega. plan on putting a tranny in it and stay away from the "crazy larry" setting. I have a big tranny now, and the bully dog stacked with the smarty, 5" turbo back with dual 6" stacks. 5" lift, 18's turning 37's. Talk about smoke.

Would you guys say it's o.k. to use the "change settings on the fly" function on the programmer?

Yes its safe, and if you want to make things a lot easier put an outlook in it. You can change on the fly right there at anytime, and it also shows you any temps you want, speedo for dif tires...etc. Very nice feature.

Error: File 157044 doesn't exist in gallery!

Here's a pic of the truck I'm working on. It looks kinda bare without the nerf bars and bushwackers. They'll be on it soon. The picture also sucks, I took it with my IPhone, not mention she really needs a bath.
