i don't understand why rap is so popular. it is the most annoying thing ever. it is just people talking quickly and talking about obscene things such as prostitutes, drugs, gangs, ECT. when did this become except-able? in the 1950's and 60's on TV husband and wife where not even allowed to be in the same bed, they had separate beds, and now 40 years later there music videos with women dancing around basically naked?

also the music is so repetitive, there is no change to the music at all through out the song. the same beat and the same words just re-played over and over. can people actually be so un-intelligent to enjoy this kind of music? what happened to when thee were, bands and those bands could play live with out electronics doing the whole thing? oh ya that was over a long time before i was born.

and finally, not trying to be racist but being obvious here, most rappers are black. what happened to when black people made creative easy listing music. James brown was a musical genius, soldier boy is a f****** joke, he's a clown.

this is a link to a speech by Bill Cosby which kind of fits into this subject
http://www.eightcitiesmap.com/transcript_bc.htm

sorry i had to rant, i just had an argument with someone who said rap the best kind of music there is. idiot

First of all, referencing Bill Cosby isn't going to earn you any credibility.

Second...Godsmack, Voodoo- I don't know if you knew this but they are referring to banging heroin. Do you hate godsmack?

ZZ Top...Pearl Necklace-If your not familiar with what a "pearl necklace" is than you won't understand, but it's not the nicest thing to say about a woman. Do you hate ZZ Top?

How do you feel about David Allen Coe? I personally like all the bands I've listed and I also like rap. MNSLEDNECK...you name dropped some run dmc...don't forget about Curtis Blow

And 87SRV, if your so against rap because of the drugs and disrespect to women I better not here about you wackin it to any pornos. You'd be a hypocrite.

Rant all you want but you are a hick in my eyes because of this post.

soldier boy isn't rap he's hip hop. Most of the new "rap" is actually hip hop. Old school rap and hip hop was good, like easy e, eminem, ice cube, luniz, ice t, d 12, and tupac. Most of the new crap sucks.. there isn't anything new coming out really. It's all about money, drugs, and women.

Owning a race sled is like having a totally hot girlfriend..... All of your friends want to see it, feel it and check it out..... They all want to know what it is like to ride it, but if they only knew how much time and money it takes to keep one up, they would call you a fool!

Alright, i got an idea here, since im open to just about every kind of music and will listen to damn near anything, I say first off, 87srvsnow, open your mind a bit to new music, I used to be completely closed minded to everything except metal and country, but once i broadened my horizons it was one of the best things i ever did. Remember, the parachute analogy. And my second point is that why should anyone give a damn about what kind of music, music is a part of personal expression, i feel this way because i myself am a guitarist, and that trying to impose your views on music onto to someone else is down right perverse, and ignorant.

For one thing.. its hard for rappers to be wiggers and wannabes when a good percentage of them are black, and all of them that were hearing on the radio are famous, successful and rich as hell!!! Now if you can get all that from being a wannabe then sign me up

The wannabes are the people who think theyre better than a type of music because they dont enjoy it like others do. it takes talent to be able to put together a rap song.. its not just talking like people are saying. Ive listened to rap ever since i was in 6th grade if i remember correctly. I also listen to a lot of other stuff im very open minded about music as long as its not screamo or country really. I listen to a lot less of it these days cause a lot of newer stuff does suck. But a lot of it is still good music.

Hey a c man1 at least musicans in the 80's could at least PLAY A DAMN INSTRUMENT!! Unlike todays UNSKILLED, UNORIGINAL rappers!! I was listening to Rap when you were stll in the backyard playing with your G.I Joe action figures!! "Rapping" about the same thing (i.e which hood you grew up in, your mom was a crack whore, you don't have a clue who your father is ect.) for 20+ years shows the complete lack of originatlty of todays generation!! I'm sure the "Fonz" was pretty cool with his leather jacket, but at least Fonzi had the dignity to fade away with some class!!

As far as being a white hick goes...DAMN right and proud of it!! You can take your politically correct crap and....well I think you have a good idea !!

Its not the music that pisses me off, its SOME of the people that listen to it.
(some because not all do)

Clothing
Hat-sideways(who thinks you look smart wearing your hat sideways, cant figure out it goes forward?)
Shirt-2 sizes too big(to cover up your a$$, because your pants are too big.)
Pants-hanging BELOW your a$$ letting everyone see what you got underneath it.(whose idea was this?)

Thats how some of the "artists" dress. And it puts me right over the edge, because they think they look good. I could give s**t if they make money. At least look respectable. And spell things right, you look even less inteligent when you intentionaly spell things wrong.

And now some people force it upon me, by BLASTING it in there Wal-Mart stereos in their cars.(a big truck and an easy getaway could make me so happy)

Its not the music i hate, its SOME of the people that listen to it. Everytime I hear someones trunk buzzing because there radio is too loud, it makes me want to slash there tires. Rant over.

I listen to tons of rap, I like it. Some is good (Evidence, 2pac etc) and some is rubbish (Soulja Boy, Lil Wayne etc). I find it ironic people make fun of the way rappers dress but have no problem with some hillbilly wearing a belt buckle the size of a turkey platter, a 10 gallon cowboy hat, boots, spurs and a shirt from bass pro shops. Also the inbreds that can't let the worst form of music ever made, 80's hair metal go. Ya, you look real cool with your mullet, tight levis, whitesnake t shirt and work boots on.

Rappers are preformers, so it dosn't bother me how they dress. It is expected for them to dress and act over the top. It's their fans who look like morons. The white guys who dress and act this way look like idiots to the 3rd power. Why would you want to look like someone you are NOT?, unless you are a sports fan wearing a jersey, helmet, etc...

As for the guys with the mullet haircuts and it's clothing accoutrements go...This has no musical influence and is rather just some very poor and dated fasion choices.

I don't really like much "main street" rap. . . but Immortal Technique, Dead Prez, Dr. Dre, and others are all good rap with a real message for the streets and anyone else that wants to listen.

Iranian rap group Hich-kas is another.

Cheers

Of course the “main stream” rap is marketed towards middle class white, black and other minorities (mostly white kids). Those are the ones who have parents that can drop lots of money on FAKE junk rap crap. What you get is a certain group of youth who copy the clothing style, language, and buy tons of crap to look like what they see. Marketers are smart bastards! It’s NOT what rap really is about. . . not now not ever.

The same can be said about many other types of music. Including metal music of all types, country, and even Punk. I listen to all types of music and like most of them. But the best stuff is always the small label “un-mainstream” bands.

BEWARE of marketers who try to steer you and your kids towards them and their clients who want to make BIG money on CD sales, clothing etc. It’s about the money guys.

Think about it.

I could care less what anybody thinks or does or for that matter listens to. As long as your not trying to involve me into your world, when I dont want to be involved. For example, when someone pulls up next to me up at a stop light, with their base so loud I can feel it and the driver trying to look cool as sh!t... Fool.

Dont get me wrong, I like base but I dont want to feel it from the car next to me, I want to hear it in my car...

Anyone ever heard of a hip/hop artist by the name of Atmosphere? He is from the Twin Cities and seems to have a pretty positive thing going, in comparison to a lot of rappers. These are just a few songs but I enjoy a lot of his music. I love music of all genres but i would recommend him. Give it a chance...

He is playing at the Bar I work and it's supposed to draw a couple of thousand people.
