Just wondering if anybody watched/is watching Extreme Ice logging on Discovery Channel as of late? They came up North to my town and area this past winter to film and get their story. I was told it aired in the US on the 15th? I haven't watched it yet as it's only coming on in Canada in like September or something. Just thought it would be cool if some of you had seen it. And what you thought of it.

Here's the schedule. Doesn't quite match what we were told as to when it aired, but what ever.

I watched part of it tonight, doesnt seem too bad.

What i had about ice road truckers is that they make it a little over dramatic, but i still dont mind watching it.

Yea they make it sound like people die every year however only one person has died, and he was plowing, not even hauling a load. No doubt that it is a dangerous job though. I usually watch it too.

I didn't mention in my other post that I did enjoy watching Extreme Ice Logging

I was a sevice rep. sales rep. for one of the worlds largest forestry manufacturers for 10 years. I spent many a day and night in the woods wrenching, and dangerous it is. I watched an episode a few days ago and had flashbacks.
I now work for a company that builds radio controls so they can run the logging equipment wireless like a toy. The wood chippers and grinders on the show are made by companies we sell controls to.
We also just had a radio control on Mythbusters in April. They used a our radio on the 4000 foot car drop segment to run the BMW on the ground. Our system worked flawlessly.

O cool. :) interesting. I can't wait to see it. HOw much ice bridge stuff are they showing? Cause we don't have much ice logging going on. There is one main ice bridge over a river, and a bunch over creeks and swamps/marsh type land, but really not that much ice going on. the main thing is the temperature at which they log. And the huge amounts of snow at times they have to deal with. And yes sometimes ice is a problem. There have been times where a cat or buncher was walking over a stream or creek and broke through. But it's not like we are logging on ice.

And dodger, that is pretty neat. Reminds me on what Bobcat has for their machines.

o thats pretty sweet, they must be pretty stupid not to realize the wind would take the falling vehicle though.

Thats the episode, Grant called us and asked if we could design a control for them and we did. I imagine we will be doing more for the show in the future. Normally they just use a toy car or plane controller, but for that episode they needed something longrange. They (Mythbusters gang) returned the system signed by they group.

Back to the Ice logging, In order for them to get across the rivers they hire people to drill a hole in the river ice and then they pump water to make the bridge ice thick enough for the rigs to cross. It cuts hours off the trips if they can cross the rivers/streams.

The forest product manufacturer I worked at, we made a tree shear that we sold to Bobcat. You could drive up to a tree and and 2 knives would cut through the tree trunk while arms on the shear would hold the tree. I think up to a 13-15 inch tree with the Bobcat style shear.
