This post is considered "no good" by the community with a rating of -9. View it anyways?
first off i live in mass and i did look at the DMV site for the answer. my brother just got a speeding ticket with my friend who is 13 and i in the car. he has had his license for 2 months so only i am aloud in the car, because i am immediate family. he was going 51 mph in a 30 mph. so the ticket is $210 luckily the officer did not ask my friend if he was family. but what would have happened if he had? how much trouble would he get in?
my brother is going to fight the ticket because the speed limit changes from 50 to 30 going down hill. and the cop was hiding directly across from the sign, there was no time to slow down. well there obviously was, but its still a stupid spot.
Bambi would have been a better and shorter movie if he was shot in the beginning with his mother

Got what he deserved and it's too bad he didn't investigate further. I hate people who don't obey the laws.

Take the punishment like a man and learn from it. He is a grown man time to accept that fact.
Recognizing that I volunteered as a Ranger, fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession, I will always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor, and high esprit de corps of the Rangers. Acknowledging the fact that a Ranger is a more elite soldier who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by land, sea, or air, I accept the fact that as a Ranger my country expects me to move further, faster and fight harder than any other soldier. Never shall I fail my comrades. I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong and morally straight and I will shoulder more than my share of the task whatever it may be, one-hundred-percent and then some. Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well-trained soldier. My courtesy to superior officers, neatness of dress and care of equipment shall set the example for others to follow. Energetically will I meet the enemies of my country. I shall defeat them on the field of battle for I am better trained and will fight with all my might. Surrender is not a Ranger word. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country. Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission though I be the lone survivor. So he didn't get an extra ticket for having a 13 yr old in the car? I wish he had. When I have kids riding with me, I obey every law there is and even drive a little slower than the speed limit at times. They are number one priority.
Your buddy shouldn't fight it. He got off lucky by the sounds of it. He messed up. Pay it, and move on and think about it every time he screwes up in the future what he could have done with the money.

If you were going 5mph or less over the limit I'd say to try and fight it, 20mph and I'll just laugh at you. I'm not saying I don't speed myself, I just don't expect any sympathy if I get caught.
I also watch the TV show's "Speeders" and "Operation Repo" just so I can laugh at people like your brother

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.
Owning a race sled is like having a totally hot girlfriend..... All of your friends want to see it, feel it and check it out..... They all want to know what it is like to ride it, but if they only knew how much time and money it takes to keep one up, they would call you a fool!

Nobody said that. However those who have gotten speeding tickets at one time don't fight them because speeding is a cut and dry offence. Sign says 30, radar says 51, not too much to fight there...
Don't want a speeding ticket? Don't speed.
Tonto here has had his license for 2 months and he's already breaking laws. So I'm gonna assume approximately 16 years old. Speeding in a car with passengers he's not supposed to have. And you think this is no problem. You must also be a stupid kid.

So you've never disobeyed the law?
You do realize that many-a-laws are ridiculous and easily broken by common mistakes/misperceptions, right?
Epic.

Only speeding ticket i got was when i was pulling into a town and it went from 65 to 45 for about 2 miles then from 45 to 35 and i didnt see the sign saying 35. Clocked me going 43 in a 35 and cop was cool about it and bumped it down since i didnt argue or anything.
In the end it was still my fault, i didnt even bother to fight it. I suggest you have your friend do the same because in the end its still his fault.

I've gotten tickets aplenty.. Paid over $7,000 between fees, fines, surcharges, etc from '84 to '95. (NO intoxication charges ever)
You know what? I deserved every one of those.
You know what else? I learned to pay attention to driving, while I was driving.

Yes, but we are talking about speeding and I was referring to rules of the road. And regardless of your opinion that these laws are "ridiculous" they still are the law.
Since the context of all this is speeding, having that law broken by a "common mistake"... I just don't see it. If it was on a hill... Car has brakes. If you didn't see the sign... Pay attention. If you have two many people in the vehicle one of which isn't supposed to be in there, you just got your license so chances are you just had your driver training, what he forgot already? I doubt that.
Or what, he percieved the 30 sign as "optional"?
Since you were pointing fingers at me, I've never gotten a traffic ticket and I've never been arrested. I've definately broken some laws before but had I been caught I wouldn't be whining about it on the internet. Ugly Old Poo Kid here has it right. Sometimes it takes thousands of dollars before it finally clicks in people's minds... At least he didn't waste anyones time by trying to fight it...

It doesn't matter if it was down hill or or if he got clocked right after the sign.
Doesn't your state have warning signs? You need to be down to the limit before you pass the sign.
You could fight it, I don't know what the courts are like around there so I cant predict the outcome but there is no reason he deserves to have it dropped of reduced.

When I was almost 18 I was driving home from a school dance with a buddy of mine and I had been driving for almost 2 years at that point but I had never gone through the formality of having my license changed from a provisional one, at the end of my first 6 months, to a normal one where I can carry other passengers. I got pulled over for a burnt out turn-signal. The cop gave me a ticket for not having the correct license that was for $210 and 2 points on my license. I went to court for it and got away with just having to take a defensive driving course online that cleared my record. My uncle is also a retired state trooper and he said that no matter what you should go to court for your tickets because the judge will atleast reduce your sentence and fines 99% of the time just for actually coming to court.

I'm not trying to be an ass but if you were 16 and a younger buddy wanted or needed a ride would seriously turn him down because "you aren't supposed too" Yeah he broke the law and didn't get charged but my point is that you should think what you would have done in his position. My .02
However i totally agree that if you break a law a little more serious like speeding that much that you don't have a snowball's chance in hell at court. And need to realize you did wrong and move on.

I dunno, if the law says no passengers, then there should be no passengers. If you do it anyway and get caught, you should be charged. My views on traffic laws have changed entirely since I became a firefighter. Having to scrape a few people off the highway at various times for being stupid leaves me with little tolerance for people who don't obey the rules of the road. Regardless of if it's a 10 mph violation or a 80 mph violation.

When i got my ticket, for 72 in a 45, I was very curtious, didn't blab my mouth off, answered the officer clearly and when he came to my house I stood there with my dad and talked to him, he wrote me up for 9 over instead of 22mph, saving me about 150$.
I was in the same position as you, I had just passed a car, it was a downhill, but the cop turned the curve to go up the hill and got me, no excuses.
I thanked the officer for the break, paid the ticket and lostmy license for 30days.
Your brother is being a douche for fighting it, officer shoulda booked him for as much as he can, and you go and try to say you werent speeding? I know in maine we have "reduced speed ahead" signs, theres plenty of warning.
I know to many people that go to court over petty things and get there asses handed to them by the judge, Most judjes don't care to much for underage children, speeding with kids there not supposed to be driving in the car.

the only reason you say its a stupid spot is because you feel it is not fair which is for sure wrong. Either way you fight it or not You shouldnt fight it like others said the judges usually don't care about kids and you will lose more then what its worth fight for. I speed alot and shouldn't but i wouldn't whine about if i got caught, I would just take it, we have a cop that comes to our school to watch some kids at lunch hour and the times i have talked to him he says lots of people should be getting tickets but he lets them off for 5mph at most if over 5 he stops them. Also he said if you talk back and just being bad about it they dont even max the ticket, but otherwise if your nice they usually take some off and let you off for more then you think.

ok, so i did not get one answer to the questions i asked.
and no in mass we don't have speed warning signs.
also my brother was giving my friend a ride home. i cant remember why his parents couldn't pick him up. but my dad was at work,so he couldn't.
and the only reason he is going to try to fight the ticket i guess is because my dad has been caught by this same cop speeding and he faught it and the cop didn't show up, so my dad got off it, and this is what my brother is hoping for. my guess is the cop will show up.
