Well i finally convinced the future wife to let me buy my first gun. That being said i have several other but was given them buy grandfather and the old man. So this is the first fire arm i have actually bought for myself and hopefully will bag a deer or 2 this fall with it. mmmmmmm deer. so here it is.

It is a savage 10fcp in .308 its more of a tactical rifle but i like the detachable mag and oversize bolt handle and in .308 there is tons of ammo avaliable.

cheers

That is nice piece you got there. What barrel comes standard on that?

That .308 round is the same round as the NATO 7.62mm
Good stuff can be had for that.

Nice rifle the 308 is a great deer rifle,I use my 12 gauge with rifled barrel, if anybody has rifled barrels on their shotgun by light-feild slugs if u want to talk about knock down power these slugs have it. Last season there was this big ass doe that I shot at about 120 yards when I was gutting it I found the slug, that slug was a little bit bigger than a quarter the deer only went abut 25ft before she dropped.

The barrel is a 24" heavy fluted with muzzle break. I may have it cut down to a 20" or 22" in the future but we will see how it shoots first.

Are u left handed or right handed? Either way Bolt is the most accurate rifle type out there but a pump does come close I would buy bolt action every time because it has never failed me.

If you want some "plinkers" I know where you can get a case of full metal jackets for under 400 usd. Unfortunately, my rifle doesn't have a NATO round so I pay about 1.30 every shot. Nice gun too man. I have a buddy with a .308 and he likes it a lot. The place that has the full metals is called gun stop in MN. I have no clue what it costs to ship across the border but if it's not much it'd be cool for you to get a case (1000 rounds).

You should of got the Model 10 carbine. 308 with a 20" barrel and a nice camo pattern. You will LOVE the accutrigger on those savages, i have one and its a great setup. I am assuming that one comes with the accu-stock also? If you dont mind me asking how much did you have to shell out for that one. I work at a gun shop so i'm just wondering what some other people are selling them for. My next gun will be a Savage 308 in a left hand model.

So far since i've been working there (3-4 Months).. i've gotten a ruger 10/22 ( heavy bull barrel, camo package, scope), Savage 17 HMR (left hand thumbole laminate stock, Nikon Scope) Ruger MKIII .22 pistol, Ruger PC 40(police carbine, shoots a 40 S&W, just got it done in digital camo, Nikon scope) and a Bushmaster Varminter Special AR .223, but i just traded that one off and picked up a brand new DPMS Arctic Panther AR(collapsable Stock, very nice, light trigger pull, Nikon scope, hogue grips)

I love guns!!

Here's a pic of my 40 with digital camo.. just a quick cell phone picture. The gunsmith actually did my scope and 3 mags i had with it too

I paid $925 usd. for the rifle with free shipping. That about right since we have to pay more for any item that crosses the border. Its a pretty fair price.

Nice that is what I thought. I have been dieing to get to the Special Tactics Battalion's sniper section for the past few weeks after watching them jack some targets up at 1800 meters. Most of those guys are using personal weapons too. (well not for the 1500+) My 700 SPS needs to be upgraded.

I am not to sure on the scope, most likely a busnell 4200 or 6500, maybe even a 3200 for now as there a little easier to use for hunting. But the main use of the gun will be for punching targets most of the year then a 2 or so week trip deer hunting. I paln on going with a tactical based scope so i have the adjustablity to with the m.o.a to reach out to 1000yards.

we will see it really boils down to cash vs need. If i happen to have a fair bit of expendable cash then i will buy the best that i can afford. That being said i would like to keep the cost of the scope and ring to under $800. less is better as i can always upgrade later on.

cheer
ps i also now have to buy a new .17 or 22hmr trainer to help sharpen the skills while keeping the shooting cost down. That and the "wife" likes to come out shooting so she like to bang a few hundred rounds out of my old .22's

I have a Bushnell 3200 3-9x40mm with Rainguard and Firefly. The Rainguard is worth its weight in gold. I was deer hunting up north with my Remington 700 .308 and it started to rain, but my scope looked clear as day because of that Rainguard. Can't say the same for my Dad's Tasco, he wouldn't have been able to shoot a thing.

Well the rifle came in the mail today. Like xmas all over again. First impressions are very good. The quality and fit and finish look great, right on par with what i was expecting. The action is nice and move freely but needs to be cycled a few hundred times to loosen it up. The rifle feels more front heavy then i thought it would but thats to be expected with the 24" heavy barrel, and lack of any optics to off set the weight. I like the stock it fits well with my build and is comfortable to hold from a standing position. The trigger breaks clean and is light, im already in love with the accu trigger. The over sized bolt knob is a little to big i think from the pics i saw before i ordered i thought it was just slightly oversized,,,,but no its big. However it allows you to cycle the action even with gloves on(i tried with my mechanics gloves on) so thats ok. And finally the magazine its very nice slides in to place a little tight right now but will be nice after a few range sessions. It lock in positively and relases clean.

Over all im pretty happy now i just need rings and a scope and about 100 or so rounds of various ammo for the first trip out.

cheers

Ya i bought a busnell 2.5x15-50 6500. Its has the same ability to do adjustments with the turrets however, the turrets have dust caps on them that screw off and are a lower profile. So it makes moving through bush better. Already been out to the range once was getting 1"x 1" groups at 150yards out side edge to outside edge, so the gun shoots sub moa right out of the box, just need calipers to get better measurements.
