Traveling back home to my hometown the other night right at dusk on a black top road and all of a sudden i look up and there were 4 cows in the middle of the road, black to of course. I hit 3 of them, 2 pretty solid and broken legs on the other one. Car is totaled, full coverage but wont get more than 2k probably.
Worse part is someone cut the fence where the cows got out so now its a criminal case, i doubt they will find out who did it but hopefully they do. Open range laws or whatever in SD make it so the farmer isnt liable.

I know a guy who was driving a Schwans truck and hit a cow at 60, caused him to roll and be thrown from the truck. It was pretty bad and they didnt know if he would live, but he is alive and well today. Glad to see you made it through alright....

The air bag dust is something brutal to inhale, burns your eyes, nose, throat.
Im am very glad i was wearing my seat belt. Pretty hard to dodge 4 cows in the road. I hope they find out who cut the fence, bastards.

Well the government will give you up to $4500 for it!
Anyway, sucks to see your car got totaled. Its good you made it out all right. I'd be super pissed if I was that farmer though. I paid way too much for my cattle for some punk to do that.
Let it snow.

ha I was just about to say that!
That is crazy! You are lucky!
I have heard that airbag dust is supposed to wake you up if you are passed out from the impact. Did you owe more than they are going to give you? Gap insurance? I am sure you know none of this right now but I am interested to see how it pans out.
Sucks, that was a damn nice ride.

The car was fully paid for, the adjuster came by today and gave us 3200 with a 500 deductible and they also paid us 100 bucks for using our truck and trailer to pick it up instead of calling a wrecker.
I wouldnt doubt it if that dust would wake someone up if they are passed out, thats some potent stuff. Still got a scratchy voice from it.
The car doesnt qualify for "cash for clunkers" as it makes like 30 mpg and is too new.

Yikes!!!
I've seen cows in the road twice around here, but never came close to hitting them. Sux you totalled your car, but I'm glad you're ok. Now you have an excuse to get something better, and a nice down payment.
That car also wouldn't qualify for the clunkers program because you have to be able to drive it in to the dealer. Take $200 from the ins. payment, go buy a running klunker and trade it in to get yer $4500 from the gov't on a new car..

That sucks, but at least you got a little more then expected. But, how are you supposed to replace a car like that for that much. That's what always got me, pay insurance for how many years, and get almost nothing for it.

Easily, he should be able to buy the exact same car and still have around $1000 left over. Looke to be about a 97-99 Grand Am. Its a $2000 car. Dont get me wrong, it looke like it was a nice litle car, but def not worth a whole lot. Ive never heard of anyones car getting totaled and they didnt get more than it was worth. Ultimately you never get back what you pay out, but insurance is not designed to work that way. Its a business(a racket imo).
Glad youre all right though, and it looks like you might be able to make out with a little bit better of a car. The hassle is a pain in the ass though.

wouldn't the crash most likely wake you up? is the dust necessary?

^^^^^^^
Sometimes people get knocked unconscious in the middle of the roll over or accident. The lingering dust left by the airbag is necessary to wake you up.

It is a '99 and it booked for around 1500-2000. Not a bad idea to get an old 200 clunker and cash it in for a clunker. Too bad the cows couldnt jump like that horse did!

Can get a clunker, have to have proof you own it for a certain period of time. That way people like me wont take advantage of the deal.
Car search continues. Looking at another pontiac, grand am or grand prix of similiar years are what im looking for now.

I meant to say cant get a clunker in that last post. Found a decent grand prix GT for 4600. Have to go look at it soon.
