I am looking to upgrade and have been thinking about what to get. I dont want to spend much over 5000. I really like the looks of the Skidoo Summit Revs but have always been die hard Polaris. I really dont like the looks of the early IQ chassis. So I was thinking of finding a trail converted IQ R 600 or so and putting at least a 144 inch track under it.

So which would be a better sled for the money. Any input is appretiated

If u want my opinion I would buy the summit because that summit is a easy sled to boondock or side hill, just my opinion

1998 Polaris Indy 500 chassis with 98 Xc 600 motor
SLP ceramic coated pipe with SLP can
V-force reeds
4 inch pivot riser
Gutted Air Box
EPI clutch kit soon to be installed
Maybe some pro tapers

1998 XC 700 water-cross sled
SLP twin pipes
Some light weight parts
Water-cross mods include taking the parts u do not need
This includes removing the seat replacing gas tank and IFS bars.

I have had both,I did not get much seat time on the MXZX Rev do to poor snow conditions the yr I had it. But when I did ride it I really liked the feel of it and it steered easier then the IQR. Chassis wise I feel the IQR is stronger then the Rev,the Rev had problems with nuns cracking.

My IQR is fully converted with a dialed 600HO and it is the most fun sled I have riden. Rode it hard all last winter without a single issue. I am a polaris fan and they are the easiest to work on IMO,so thats the route I took.

Current Line Up
-09 RMK Assault
-06 IQ R 600HO
-01 ProX 600
-95 XCR 600

Days get shorter, snow gets deeper, life gets better.

well the polaris would end up being the best sled IMO but it would be a pain to put the track extension and stuff so im sure it would be more money that the summit. Also maybe look into an assult?

I'm a Ski-Doo guy, but those IQr's are amazing machines. You've got to ask yourself though... can you handle a race sled? will you be able to maintain the machine whenever it needs it, or would you rather have the Summit ready to go?

Totally depends on your riding style. An IQR will beat you up on trails but kill anything in the ditch or track. Two totally different sleds.

If you are wanting something for deep snow, its going to cost you to build an IQR 144 that can perform on par with an RMK or Summit. Just putting a 144 on an IQR won't cut it! The IQR's rock the ditches/trails, but in the deep stuff, it takes a full front suspension upgrade, bigger gas tank, new rear coolers, and lots of other little stuff!

Ya i need a deep snow machine for our trips out west. At least a 144 is manditory. If its gonna be that much work I will probably go rev but i will have to think for awhile.

I was in the garage looking at my current sled and I dont know if I can part with it yet.

BTW i ride ditches and the river around here and I go out west and do alot of boondocking.

Was just gonna say the same thing. If your die hard Polaris, why wouldn't you buy and RMK instead of a Rev? Besides, the RMK is a damn good sled, too!

Look for an 07 600 then, most of them are going for around 5K and the 600 CFI - i think they need an update but im not sure - is undeniably a stronger motor then your 700. here's a switchback 144 X 1.25 I found on sledswap for 5k even.

They didn't make fusion plastics on the RMKS. ARe you referring to the 900/866 motor? That is all that is the same in the 05/06 rmks and fusions. 06 rmk or 06 switchback 600 may be what you want. If you want bigger than the 600 you could also look into an 07 rmk/switchback with the new 700 motor. I've read that many mountain guys really like the new 700 motor but don't be confused with the 06 700 that was actually a 755cc machine.

I found this one on sled swap.

http://www.sledswap.com/class/i/14987/i.html

Is this a reasonable price for the sled. What else would need to be done besides clutching and gearing and of corse the extension stuff

I found a 04 Summit 800 with 1700 miles on it for $2600. Can't hardly beat that. I'm excited for the new chassis
